Butternut squash soup season has arrived at my house thanks to the fresh and delicious butternut squashes I've purchased at Walmart. The squash has been firm, easy to peel, and makes for a very tasty finished product. I look forward to buying these every fall season. Good and good for you!
The best and largest Butternut Squash I have ever seen. It cooked p great in my microwave after splitting in half. It gave me 3 large 2cup without having to helpings which I put into twist top containers for my freezer. I will have them as additions to several summer meals without a lot of fuss. I added brown sugar and butter mixed in before freezing.
I love this type of squash. You can peel it, cube it and smother it in your favorite oil and spices then roast it. I love split it length wise and place it upside down on a cookie sheet and bake it. From there I bake cookies, bars and pies with it, or smash it like mashed potatoes. It is such a great tasting squash.
Always very nice flavor, I only use salt, pepper, garlic powder and olive oil for a fantastic side dish. Been buying this for years and will continue to do so.
These make an amazing butternut squash risotto! This last one I bought was huge (over a foot by 5"-6" @ widest) and became butternut squash soup. The sweetness of the squash is just right for a partially sweet, partially savory soup to keep you warm in the winter! Just chop off the ends, split it lengthwise, scrape out the seeds and darker strings, brush with olive oil and roast at 375F for 45 mins. Let cool. Use an oven mitt and scoop out of the skin into a food processor. Process with the blade on the bottom, add 3/4 cup chicken or vegetarian broth (I used 1/2 crushed bouillon cube and 3/4 cup water) and 1/2 teaspoon each: cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, to taste . Once the flavor tastes good, mix in cream to desired texture.
I've been purchasing these all year. I slice a two to three inch slice and dice it to add to meals like Sheppard's Pie, soups, eggs with boil butternut grated zucchini chopped meat and topped with cheese. One butternut squash lasted me from March 25th to April 12th. I finished it off today. The more veggies you can incorporate into your daily meals your gut will thank you for it.
Your people picking merchandise need training and oversight. This product is old and in bad shape. One little piece ok, other half ready for the garbage!
Rarely ever fresh. Skin is wrinkled to reveal shrivel and time left withering while shelved. Had I not bought via pickup, I wouldn't have selected this in the store. Buy via pickup at your own risk.
never received. they gave me 4 small yellow squash instead of 2 butternut squashes. obviously don't know what a butternut squash is!! had to reorder %26 then make another trip to pick up as I desperately needed them for a recipe....this kind of thi g happens too frequently these days. i am ALWAYS missing items %26 it's always items I needed badly!!!!
My grocery pickup order yesterday contained 2 butternut squash. One was perfect. The other was shriveled and starting to rot. I did not know this until I got home, a 50 minute drive away. Quality control of the produce in stock seems to be lacking. It's a little scary to think that a shopper thought this squash was acceptable and put it in a pickup customer's bag instead of the garbage. It's not cost or time effective for me to drive almost 2 hours round trip to return the squash and it defeats the purpose of a grocery pickup to have to find a place to park, go in to the store, and stand in line for a refund. In all fairness, this does not happen often but something this obvious shouldn't happen at all. Hope the person who brings out my groceries on my next pickup isn't in a hurry because I'll be checking all my produce before accepting it.
