At $12 a quart for genuine pre-made bone broth, I decided to make my own. I meant to simmer the paws for 16 hours but I accidentally let it simmer for 21. I learned after the fact, from a friend, to keep it closer to 12 hours, which explained the bitter smell. When I checked out the cooked chicken paws, I just could not bring myself to try one. I drained the broth after it cooled and put it in the fridge and got rid of the chicken paws. Needless to say the paws lost any kind of crunch, were spongy, and the bones were so soft they broke apart like nothing. I used a whole onion and seasonings like salt, thyme, bay leaf and parsley - I think I should have added black pepper, too. This was definitely a trial-and-error batch - first time! I wouldn't serve chicken paws at parties, but I will definitely keep working on perfecting my bone broth! Since the bones soften so easily, they would be safe to feed to a puppy.
For a while when I ordered those for my dog they would come with the inside of the paw that they had spots which I googled and it is where the chickens get infection so I complaint a lot about the chicken paws cause most I could throw away when I got them. Now all of a sudden I guess finally someone realized it and the quality has changed up and it is really good now. Thanks for listening
Many people may buy these for their dogs. I cut off the toenails crab them with vinegar and baking soda. Season them well and boil until the meat almost fall off the bone. I can season and batter and fry sometimes. Great product but a bit pricey for Chicken Feet. I had to laugh at Chicken Feet.
I put a package in a slow cooker with carrots, black peppercorn, turmeric, italian seasoning and a little vinegar. Let it go on low for a couple of days, then strain it and use the broth to pour over my dogs dry food. Lots of glucosamine and collagen for my older dog. And they love it.
I use a tray of paws and a large tray of chicken wings to make soup for me and a soup with chicken topper for my dog. I use two large pots when preparing the soup the difference being my dog's batch is made without onion. Neither of us eat the paws after cooking, just the meat from the wings and vegetables in the broth. Each of us get a very flavorful, collagen-rich soup to enjoy on these bitterly cold winter days. Yes, it looks a bit strange while cooking but you can't beat the flavor of the finished soup.
I can't say how these taste because I buy these for my dogs. They go bad fast so I dehydrate them the day I receive them. I run it for 24 hours even though that's longer than they say you need to. You can't bake them to make them safe for dogs. Dehydrating them makes them powder instead of splinter when the dog eats them. My dogs love these so much that it's how I get them to come in the house. I call out "chicken feet" and they come running lol Just be aware they have the icky toe nails still on them lol. the first time I prepared them I used the dog nail clippers to cut off the nails but at the rate they eat these, I stopped doing that on the 2nd batch lol
It's getting harder and harder to find chicken feet and or paws but I can always count on Walmart to have them in stock. This is a must have to make the best chicken broth ever! Plus, they make a great healthy snack for dogs. Don't cook them, just give them to your dog raw. Most people already know that cooked bones are bad for pets, but just in case there's a newbie out there that doesn't know, here ya go 😊
I do not eat these. But I rehab wildlife and lots of my wild things eat them. My Great Danes love them for snacks, my pet Bobcat gets one every night with her meal. They are way more expensive in the past year than they've ever been before, having gone from .79 per pound to $3.28 per pound now. You do have to watch the dates on the package because I have bought them and when opened, they wete already slimy %26 bad. The smell will let you know immediately. (I feed those to my catfish but it is an expensive snack for them). I keep them in the freezer right up to 10 or 15 minutes before feeding them as you can place them in luke warm water and they will thaw in 10 minutes.
Since you change the last brand you used to have at the store for fresh chicken I have to change buying in other stores only was keeping buying your paw chicken but I will stop because they came always 3-4 pcs bad in every package , please apply quality control for these.
I got these chicken paws for my cat and my dog, they wouldn't even touch them. when I took one of the paws out of the package it felt kind of slimy but not slippery and for them to turn their nose up at it I figured there's definitely something wrong with it...
