As soon as I found out Walmart was LAUNCHING this new product, I BLASTED OFF to my local store. Once I bit into a COSMIC crisp apple, I realized the taste was OUT OF THIS WORLD good. Now, whenever I'm in the mood for a crisp delicious apple, I always GRAVITATE to Cosmic crisp. However, be aware that their price is somewhat ASTRONOMICAL, sometimes ORBITING around $4 per bag.
These are as juicy as a watermelon!! They're unbelievably delicious! I just started buying these a few months ago. Before that, I never ate apples. I never really cared for them. Until I tried these!! I've never had an apple even close to these before! I even got my husband hooked on them. Eat these with caramel dip and you will be in pure heaven! I can't shovel them fast enough in my mouth lol! Every bag I've gotten so far has been great. I've never got a bad batch. If I could grow these, I would! They should be called, candy burst apples!
If you like apples, the Cosmic apple is at the top of the list. These apples always seem to be the freshest, crispiest and best tasting apple overall for apples now available. Other apples may be better in one way, but lack other traits that we judge to be significant. The one area the Cosmic apple falls short on is taste when baking apple pie. It just can't beat Granny Smith"s , but overall, the Cosmic just beats the others by a good margin.
This is a crisp apple, with crisp skin that is sweet and has great flavor. But, currently expensive. Which is why I'd advise picking up the bag yourself -- don't do grocery pickup -- because the bag I was given only weighed 2 lbs., and the bag (and salesfloor sign) says the bag should be 3 lbs. I needed these apples for a fruit/cheese dessert tray, live way out of town, and Walmart only gave me 2 lbs. So, absolutely fantastic sweet, crisp apple for Winter months, but select the bag yourself, and I'd suggest weighing it on a Walmart scale before paying for it.
Have bought the Fresh Cosmic Crisp Apples a few times now and recommend them. They're good taste, quality, texture and price overall. Great snacks. Haven't tried them cooked in anything. Sometimes I put slices on my oatmeal , or have them with cottage cheese or cheddar, or with peanut butter toast, etc..........You should try them as a BLT sandwich, using apple slices in place of tomatoes. So good!
To me, Cosmic Crisp Apples are the Best Tasting Apples Ever, They're all I purchase and are a good size, when you bite into one you hear the crispness and your mouth is happy for the juciness and sweetness. I enjoy them sliced dipped in Jif peanut butter, or with Swiss cheese chunks. They're delicious atop Oat Meal or mini wheats whole grain cereal. Totally worth buying,
Flavor is not bad, generally. Moderate crispness. Consistent size. Best to buy the smaller bag because the company pays closer attention to quality more than the larger bag where a few apples that are starting to turn but are concealed within the bulk.
I loved these apples. but the last few times I've bought them they have punctures in them like someone tried to take a bite. not in just one apple but several til the last bag I just threw away! I shrugged it off in the beginning.... oh just a bad one. then another, then another ..... even the next bag. I've since switched. no more cosmic brand for me. some holes were smaller. even sliced slightly. I did not get photos. if you shop at the store, look at several apples through the bag. unfortunately I get delivered. I get what I get. but when I'd gone to the store with someone else, I got to see others of this brand were the same. I want to add, the "pickers" or "shoppers" usually pick well. so it's not them. it's the brand. beyond that, how they get so beat up, I don't know. these used to be good apples.
the bag of apples arrived. i laid the bag out overnight to load onto my boat and it turns out there was a rotten apple in the bag which drips onto my couch and stain the slipcover. please advice your shoppers to check the produce more carefully. please reimburse me partially for the rotten fruit (there was a rotten apple the last time before this.)
Cosmic Crisp apples were developed at the university from which I graduated - Washington State University. They are one of the finest apples ever developed - juicy, excellent flavor, beautiful color and outstanding texture. These were culls. Look up the word culls if you don't know the definition. They obviously had not been kept refrigerated. They were badly bruised, mushy and very dirty. They should have been composted and never offered for sale.
