Good size, thick--not thin. I cut off the peel with a knife. I like to make fresh ginger tea by cutting this up into thin slices and add cinnamon sticks, cloves, and cardamom seeds and boil for 30 min. Ginger root also goes great in green split pea soup. Peel, chop some up into small pieces and put directly into soup or blend first with some water. Great flavor for the green split peas. Other than tea and soup, I do not use ginger root for anything else. Oh...if I ever have an upset stomach or heartburn, I will chew a chunk of ginger and the discomfort disappears within a minute or two. Very healthy spice.
Awesome LARGE roots! In the past, I've purchased 7 to 10 pounds every year to make sushi ginger, ginger purée and ginger teas. I was planning on cutting back this year due to health issues [don't have the energy to stand and process the ginger], but then Walmart made these large ginger roots available. I purchased 12 pounds - and may get more. The larger roots are so easy to clean and process. Although you do NOT have to scrape the thin skin off to use the ginger, I don't usually take off this much skin. It was just too easy...
I was SO happy I could pick an approximate weight. I picked .50 pounds, since I am single and it has been a real treat. It has such a strong..."lemony" flavor and goes into my smoothies and one of these nights I am going to make ginger tea. Now, if we could just choose approximate weight on other items...so since some things are not exact weight, instead...like, minimum size we would accept or maximum amount...sure would be nice (Walmart)!
Walmart has some of the best ginger root available in the city. I use it to make ginger beer and ginger sodas. Wal Marts ginger supplier has the freshest ginger with the best surface yeast available to make these drinks, and make them quality. The freshness of the ginger would also be perfect for cooking and candying.
It's hard to imagine why the Walmart algorithm would ask me to review a product that is fresh produce. Seems silly. I like ginger root and use it a lot for cooking and in hot tea. It's a fresh item. Why on Earth would they want my opinion. But they asked for it, so here goes. 5 Stars. Highly recommend.
Ginger is one of the best natural sources to help have a healthy body system. It taste great and can be used in all kinds of recipes. I absolutely love it. I don’t go a day without it… Except for when you’re out of it, which seems to be a lot lately. Very frustrating. You got to order more to keep it in stock!
I ordered organic ginger because it is supposed to be non gmo. Organic ginger is supposed to be smaller but that’s not all I got. Some of the ginger is moldy. Not cool. I got a bunch of broken off pieces I don’t understand why people would send me food they wouldn’t buy for themselves. I don’t know if I should continue to shop with Walmart
ordered online for home delivery and received several dried and also pithy pieces, and no whole pieces. A couple of them were even moldy. The pieces are so small they cannot be peeled to be used.
Once again I find another item from my order that is past expiration, the ginger that I received was not fresh and it has mold on it! This is why I will no longer get fruit delivered again, I’ll rather go pick up my own fresh produce!
I requested .75 lb of fresh ginger, but I received only .25 lb in small pieces. No explanation. I'm wondering why I didn't get as much as I ordered. (I was charged correctly for the amount that I received, but really wanted the larger amount.) Availability? Did the shopper read the order incorrectly?
