I buy Jicama often and find in most cases it is fresh, flavorful and crisp with minimal brown spots as other reviewers have mentioned. Occasionally I’ll get one that is mottled with brown spots to the point that I have to toss the entire jicama. But what I object most to is the heavy wax coating that is applied. I suppose it has to do with keeping it fresh but for me it has the opposite effect. I suspect the wax traps any bacteria present on the jicama which may be the contributing factor why I sometimes see blue form under the wax. The wax also makes the jicama harder to cut off the peel.and my knife gets full of hard to wash off wax.
Too much wax coating, the inside of the jicama was old and dry and it went bad pretty quickly, even though the outside was fresh looking due to all the wax on it
Anyone can usually tell if produce is bad by the smell and look. This jicama smells like something died inside the bag with it and has stuff growing on it too.
The two Jicama I purchased looked perfectly fine from the outside but were rotten on the inside. One was 100% rotten and the other one was starting to rot. Had to throw them out. Disappointing
Two different times I ordered jicama and both times I got rutabagas. Not even in the same food family. I was very disappointed as jicama would have been a late night snack by cutting it into sticks and there is hardly any calories and plenty of fiber. Rutabaga you peel, cube and cook before eating.
Completely rotten in the inside
it was rotten. last time, two orders back i bought 2 and one was bad too.
Dense, woody, flavorless, like trying to chew a burlap potato sack. It has small brown marks throughout the meat, which wouldn’t be a deal breaker on its own. This may be old, can’t tell by sight because of the heavy wax coating, and it does not live up to the importer’s description.
Completely the wrong item I got an onion did not request an onion
They sent an onion instead of jicama
