LOVE these tamarind pods!!! They are my favorite new snack and I have been eating a small handful (about 6 pods) every day. The box of 1 pound lasts a week or more. Not only are they delicious and healthy, they are definitely keeping me more regular instead of being frequently constipated. These were also the very best price I found on the internet, by far! I just crack off the shell, pull off the little 'strings' and pop them in my mouth, then work the seeds loose, spit them out, and chew up the sticky fruitiness. I've had tamarind in Mexico also, but that is more sour and not as nice to eat plain. These, however, are a perfect balance of sweet and tart. YUM!
I was SO excited to see that Walmart sells fresh tamarind pods! I was even more excited to find that 9 out of 10 of the pods are delicious and ripe! We had tamarind in a tropical country and thought we could only get the paste in America, not the actual pods! Tamarinds are one of the few foods that may be able to bind to and help remove microplastics out of your body. You should only eat about 10 at most in a day, though because they can have a laxative effect. HOW TO KNOW YOUR TAMARIND IS GOOD AND HOW TO EAT THEM: I crack my pods open between my palms. The shell should be crunchy/easy to open. Once inside, there will be a sticky fruit formed around several seeds. Over this fruit are some thread-like "strings" - about 5 - that form over the fruit. (Reminds me of something out of the movie, Alien!) You want to pull off those strings. Then, I usually bite between 1 or 2 seeds and scrape the fruit off in my mouth around the seeds... but theres more than one way to eat this. Badically, you just want to eat the sticky, date-pulp-consistency fruit and not the seeds or white membrane (though the membrane wont hurt you.) THE FRUIT IS BAD IF... the pod is mushy and shriveled; When you break open the pod, the white membrane is exposed a lot; there is mold on the fruit. Tamarinds are used in many recipes in Asia, as well and many familiar Thai recipes, but being able to eat the fresh fruit in pods is a treat! By the way, these are the SWEET tamarind. There is also a SOUR Tamarind. I hope this review is helpful to someone out there... Blessings, and enjoy this unique fruit!
These are outstanding. I've already purchased four boxes. They are both sweet and tart. I recommend you store them in the refrigerator. They peel much better when cold. Give them a try. Natural candy
oh my goodness these are delicious they're almost like a state honestly that is exactly like a date but they have a tart like a sour tart oh they're delicious
Not sure but some of them looked rotten on the ends or some bug nest. Big turn off there. Then some were dry, some sweet but so small not enough pulp.
Unfortunately, the Tamarinds was very dry out, and a lot of them were not good. I couldn't use most of the box. There were extremely sweet. There was not many that had any tart taste, which is unusual most taborins haven't a tart taste. Regardless of the taste, it was just that thin I was very dry almost as if it was frozen on the inside just shrunk. I was disappointed. I'm hopeful that this will approve because I like the idea of buying tamarinds in the store.
moldy fruit. I love tamarind even the sour ones. I grew up on them. I was very disappointed on getting these, they are hardly in stock so when I saw it available I purchased it for our road trip.
This item had been in stock and available the entire time I placed my order with it being available and then all of a sudden when it’s time for delivery, the item is no longer in stock along with several other items. So I haven’t gotten a chance to try it. This is just based on the availability and it’s saying it was available at the time of purchase and then at the time of pulling the order for delivery is not there.
This is not normally the brand. Maybe on shelves too long, but most of the tamarind was rotton and dry. please check expiration date it, matbe next ti.e
Considering Tamarindo needs to be in dry conditions, I imagine the trip it toke all the way to USA and then my local GA Walmart, plus I wonder how long it toke to be packed after harvest… well as much as I love tamarind, I suggest you buy this personally, since maybe you can sneak peek for mold. Sadly mine had lots of mold inside the shells. So if you are feeding it to kids be cautious and check them before they eat them. To the company, activate a quality control system, you got a good product and a good chance, after all you made it to a point far away, just take care of this details Pd. No photo because it was a little gross. .
