These are some of the best tasting turnip greens I have ever eaten. I have never tasted the peppery tany flavor these greens have, just as the bag described. The bag was full to capacity and there was not a bad leaf in the bag. Seasoned with onion, garlic and hamhocks, no salt needed. I guess quality control has improved!!!
I typically purchase my turnips fresh from a local farmer picked and cooked in a matter of hours. You cannot get fresher yet these prepackaged turnips are in really great quality and priced reasonably. I don’t typically comment but decided to since the reviews were so low and I like them so much. To reiterate, good brand, I disagree with the low rating reviewers.
Fresh, clean, already cut! My 1st time cooking fresh turnip greens and these were amazing! will definitely use again!
Quick %26 easy fresh turnips. I pressure cooked them in my one pot with a carton of chicken broth %26 extra water and salt. ready in under 45 min. I did remove some of the larger stems. I prefer them to be cut into larger pieces, but i'll chose these turnips over the mess of washing and cutting and cooking for hours.
A large portion of a package of these greens are large stems. I have to take the time to go through and pick them out. Some people may like the stems in their greens and that is okay. I was taught to discard the large stems and I have for over 50 years when picking. I purchased the bagged greens because of the convenience.
Fresh Turnip greens are out of date by 11 days and appear very slimy inside. Total disappointment in the shopper for not noticing something so obvious.
TOO MANY STEMS AND DIRT SO THE OUTER PACKAGE WEIGHT WAS INCORRECT. ENDED THROWING AWAY 2 PACKAGES OUT OF 3 AND WALMART CUSTOMER SERVICE PROMISE TO REFUND BUT I GUESS IT GOT MISLAID IN THE EMAIL. LIARS
Terrible- too many stems! Too many yellow leaves. It took me a long time to get rid of all the stems. I had very few greens left after throwing away more than half of the bag. The shoppers shouldn’t even pick a bag of discolored and terrible looking greens to be delivered to a customer.
Thought I'd save myself some time and effort by buying pre-cut and "triple washed" bagged greens. Boy was I ever wrong. The time I saved by not having to wash them repeatedly was instead spent removing the ridiculous number of STEMS. The photo shows all the stems I removed from two (2) 32-ounce bags. I put them on my kitchen scale and they weigh a whopping 24 ounces. In other words, nearly 40% of the total 64 ounces is stems, which is a higher stem-to-leaf ratio than a regular (uncut, unwashed) bunch of turnip greens would yield! I'd have had fewer stems per pound if I'd bought a regular bunch and de-stemmed them myself before washing them. So I've paid $8.68 ($4.34 per bag) for 40 ounces of edible product that, by the way, is nothing to write home about, either. Many of the leaves were dry, wilted, or simply past their prime, despite the 11/04/21 "best by" date. It makes me wonder what conditions the bags were stored under: it looks like they may have been without refrigeration for a longer-than-acceptable period of time. To date I have been very satisfied with the Walmart.com grocery-shopping experience--including the fresh produce that has been chosen for me--but this is the exception. If I'd been shopping in the store in person, I'd have seen everything I described above and would NEVER have bought the product. And so it goes; we live, we learn. I won't ever purchase this product again.
I bought about 8 of these over time. I found wood pieces in 2 of the bags (not stems - actual wood, like from pallets, about 1 inch long and 1/4 inch wide, great for choking yourself) so I got in the habit of picking them over. Well, the last bag I used tonight, was full of sand. It had been frozen, and it completely ruined about $20 worth of soup I was making with it; completely gritty. So, my recommendation is to avoid this product for now.
