Quite embarrassing bringing these as an appetizer. They were definitely not fresh infact just the opposite-very hard. Don’t mind paying more for good food products however these should have been removed from the shelf. One was broken in half that’s how dry it was. No one could eat them.
I am told that I am a very good cook. I learned from my mother and mother-in-law. Most of the time I don’t measure and just randomly add spices I think will blend well with what I’m cooking. I’ve found that these fresh portobello caps make a nice side-dish that goes well with any entree. I remove the stem and clean them well. I salt them underneath and put them bottom side up into a greased glass baking dish. I add garlic powder to about 3 oz. of cream cheese and mash it in. I add any variety of shredded cheeses and grated parmesan to total a cup or little more. I mash that mixture into the cream cheese and press it into 3 or 4 caps making them slightly mounded. If I have green onions on hand, I add a few thinly sliced. Bake on 375 until browned on top (20-25 min). Don’t worry if some spills over. They are delicious. My son calls them a delicacy.
I've used these for two things and both worked really well" Substitute hamburger buns, so just sear for a few minutes on both sides with a little butter and the second one, cooked like a steak. Just use your own seasoning and cook like you would any other type of meat. There's not a ton of flavor without spices and oils/butters but they truly do have a meat consistency when cooked. Worth a try for both these instances, especially if you're looking to eat just a little bit healthier.
Good mushrooms, and healthy too. I order on a weekly basis, along with a package of Baby Bella mushrooms. I microwave-steam them, then store in containers in refrigerator to use in stir-fries, salads, etc. With home delivery, quality cannot always be guaranteed; however, they have always been usable for the most part.
I love this vegetable. It kept me from eating seconds with the rest of my meal It is so easy to cook and eat on a sandwich or integrate with other vegetables I am addicted, this is the best suggestion that I received from my brother.zIt is truly a meat substitute. Try it you just may like it
very meaty mushrooms. good flavor as I slice them up with onion and cook with bacon and it's almost a meal if it's own but add some cut up asparagus and chicken with chicken broath and a little cream and garlic and other seasonings and you've got a healthy meal.
These are very nice, portabella mushrooms, and I enjoyed them very much. I chopped then fried them in a little butter and added to a meatloaf. I have one more that I plan to cook on the grill and expect it to be very tasty. However, I honestly can't see that they are worth a difference in price compared to the small brown or white mushrooms. But I do understand that growing them that large would cause them to be more expensive per ounce. Also, they are much easier to clean and process than the small ones.
Who knew that putting the gill side up in the sun for a little while increases vitamin D just like our own human bodies do. I've had trouble with vitamin d products and was happy to discover that I could get an increased dose of vitamin D simply by placing these in the Sun!
These were the smallest portable of mushrooms I have ever received. When I purchased these in the store, I picked the largest portobellos. I do feel like when I get Delivery orders they take the ones off the shelf that nobody else wants, and they push them onto deliveries. I routinely get very poor produce and items that look like nobody wanted, and they picked over it.
I used to buy these large portabello mushrooms regularly but no more. My last several purchases were horrible. Soft and slimy within a day. I've started buying my produce elsewhere. Walmart apples and oranges are tasteless, lettuce is limp, lemons are pithy and tomatoes soft. All indictive of old produce. Walmart offers many quality items at decent prices but their produce has been very bad for too long. The only way to change their buying habits is to stop spending your hard earned money there.
