I bought these Nov 5! It’s now mid April and the last one is still crisp as it was it was the day I bought these. It’s just amazing how well these keep. I use these instead of onions mostly with leeks. The flavor is awesome. Perfect for keto and low carb diets. Mild and sweet. Perfect in my lime vinaigrette w/a touch of honey. Pairs well with green onions , leeks, any other vegetables and one dish meals. Pot pies, homemade chili and hamburger helper. I use these in so may recipes. You can’t beat the price. I was buying the 2 at a time until I saw these. Glad I took the chance. The bag helps keep them fresh. Produce bags they keep well too. Veggies have to to vent or they’ll go bad quick.
Shallots are great when half of a whole onion will only serve as fragrance for your garbage. These work out to be less wasteful unless you are going to use an entire onion. They won't be a direct substitute for every variation of onion out there, but if you're looking to add a flavor without wasting much, these are the answer. It also sounds different when you say you used shallots as opposed to saying you threw in some onion. Shallots mean chef. Onions are so ordinary.
I was watching a cooking video and the guy used these to make a meal he was preparing. I had never hear of them. Much to my surprise wal mart had them in stock, needless to say I ordered some. I made a chicken meal with Alfredo souce garlic (fresh cut) and the two of the shallots. Pan fried the shallot and garlic before mixing it with the Alfredo sauce put some fresh cut mushrooms mixed it up popped all in a dutch over at 250 degrees (shallow pan) and bang. Within 1 1/2 hours the I had the most delish dinner I have had in a while...I absolutely love them, great taste and a welcome change from regular onions.
These were in perfect condition like they just been harvested. They were OK, but I just prefer onions with a stronger flavor. If onions are too strong for you, shallots would be a perfect substitute with a much more mild flavor.
I absolutely love these. But it never fails I end up getting moldy ones. I try to check before I buy or have my shopper do that but if they shop n if it's the end of the available ones left I will definitely get one or two of the four or five and they'll be moldy n unusable. It's a waste of money but it's the ONLY SHALLOT AVAILABLE! The only store that carries it if it's available n being the only option really sucks bc they know you're going to pay the high cost n get minimum quality bc they don't reach us when they are fresh. So pay attention to the quality of your selection when you buy them. If i could do the shopping myself id have a better selection. But without a car right now i have to rely on ppl who don't care. So i get moldy ones regularly. Weekly.
I use shallots more than onions, so I buy these a lot. However, they're not cheap and I've been getting at least one rotten shallot in each net and that is super frustrating. I would rather buy them individually and avoind this.
Ordered one 16 oz bag of shallots. What I received was the bag with one shallot inside. Bag should have had a full pound of shallots.
I don’t recommend because in my last order I received an open bag with only 2 small onions in it. My hubby brought it back and they wouldn’t allow it to be returned and said it was policy to open the bags…this is the first and only time I have received an open bag! 😠
The packaged shallots were old and rotten except for one. I threw out all of them except for one. Usually this product has always been in excellent condition. I was disappointed with looking through the net packaging I can see that most of the shallots were rotten. I expect the personal shopper to be more careful when picking out products, especially if you could see what’s in the net packaging.
all except two were soft and moldy. dont your shoppers check the produce for freshness? i pay for this service and the shopper failed miserably!
