Sweet, Fresh, and Great for Cooking

nichole February 25, 2026

I buy these regularly because I honestly prefer sweet onions over yellow onions for a lot of cooking. The flavor is milder and slightly sweeter, which works really well whether you’re sautéing, roasting, or using them raw. They’ve been consistently fresh when I’ve picked them up, with good firmness and no soft spots. I’ve also used them for the viral onion “chips” recipes going around, and they worked perfectly because the natural sweetness really comes through when cooked. What I liked: • Mild, slightly sweet flavor • Versatile for cooking or raw use • Good freshness and quality • Works great for roasted or air-fried recipes • Nice size for multiple meals Things to know: • Because they’re sweeter, they caramelize faster than yellow onions Overall, this is one of those staple ingredients I keep coming back to. Reliable quality and great flavor. Would buy again? Yes.

Huge onions

anonymous July 17, 2026

These onions are absolutely huge! We rarely eat them raw so I can only review them as a cooked onion. We pan fry them to go with mushrooms as a side for hamburgers or steak and they have a great, sweet, carmelized taste to them. No strong after taste and they brown up nicely. A bit expensive though.

Best onion ever

wisconsingirl June 2, 2026

This onion was delicious! It sliced up very nicely and the way it blended with the cheese, ketchup and mustard on my burger is just indescribable! I will be buying more so I can dice them up and use them on brats, hotdogs and chicken sausage. Highly recommended.

Great mild taste

L July 16, 2026

This was truly a sweet mild summer onion. I gave 4 stars rather than 5 because it had a rotten center ring. These sweet onions do deteriorate much quicker than other varieties so it isn't uncommon. There was no way for WM shopper to be able to tell this, and I was still able to use most of it.

I don’t know why I continue to order onions through the grocery delivery. I don’t think I’ve ever gotten one onion that wasn’t half rotten. I just don’t understand why someone can’t pick out an onion that isn’t half rotten. I just I’m not gonna order them anymore through the delivery app, but other than that, I’m satisfied with everything..

Giant onion, hard to slice or use before spoiling

Eileen July 15, 2026

This onion was a sweet onion, with a good flavor, but the size was enormous and weighed over 2lbs. Hard to grip and slice on the cutting board and takes forever for a single person to use it all before it spoils. Will need to shop inside the store to get any future onions. Too bad there is no option to select a normal size that is smaller than a grapefruit.

YELLOW Onions are NOT SWEET Onions!

Suzanne December 4, 2025

This is the fourth time I've ordered SWEET ONIONS and received YELLOW ONIONS from the Walmart in Callaway FL. I hope this review gets to the Coach of the pickers for this store and someone gives a training session on the difference between the two. Yellow Onions are typically rounder with a medium brown, unbroken, thick skin. SWEET onions are normally larger, flatter, and the skin is very thin and often peeling. there is a huge difference in both the appearance and the flavor. The accompanying photo shows a sweet onion on the left and the yellow onion I received on the right. Please, please learn the difference.

If you order sweet onions you get yellow onions

William October 22, 2025

When i order delivery and order sweet onions, i will get yellow onions. Please train shoppers and stockers that there is a difference. Even when in the store about half of the onions in the sweet onion bin will be yellow onions. Please fix. Sweet onions say "sweet onions" on the label, yellow onions will say "fresh onions" or "yellow onion" or just "onion". There must be a problem with the way shoppers scan items because the receipt shows sweet onion but what you receive is a yellow onion. The PLU (the code that is on the sticker) is 4166 for a sweet onion. Everytime i ordered sweet onions, i get yellow onions with a PLU of 4093. PLEASE FIX.

Delivery gives YELLOW onions

Kelly June 14, 2026

Delivery always just delivers plain yellow onions when I try to order these sweet onions. Says it on the sticker. Even though I plainly order sweet onions. Not substituted, just given instead. Save your money and just get the cheap yellow onions. You'll receive them anyway.

wrong item very upset

anonymous July 10, 2026

the Shoppers ever get my onions right. they always give me a yellow onion and never give me the vidalia sweet onion like I ordered. I have a picture of the onions with the yellow onion sticker on them to prove it. I cannot eat these hot onions that they give me that's why I order sweet Vidalia onions. I wish there was a way I got a receipt for everything they scanned for me with each order that way it would prove that they scan the wrong item and I can show it to customer service. I hate paying for the wrong onions. please have Walmart talk to the spark people about this.
