The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because Walmart doesn't use anything to keep them closed. Anyone can come along and open the package and put whatever they want on them. Or sneeze or whatever. They should have a sticker or something so they can't be opened until purchased.
I am so happy with the Plus program. this is my first negative response. The pastry was dry and tasteless. The apple 'filling" didn't even equal a teaspoon of fruit. . It should have been flakey and sweet. This is the 2nd time I ordered it, thinking the first order was an error. not so. I threw two turnovers away. it WAS the right shape and delivered on time.
I used to love buying these apple turn overs. I stopped buying them bc frankly they were too expensive for me. I had a craving for them this week and broke down and bought a 4 pack of them. From the outside and their clamshell, they looked wonderful. They were puffed up and golden brown and they had sugar on top… I thought, for a treat now and again, this might be worth almost the six dollar price tag !! I took one out of the clamshell, popped it in the microwave for 15 seconds took it out, sat down to watch my show… And started cutting into the Apple turnover . To my horror, it ended up being nothing but dough. The dough on the bottom of the turnover was hard. There was very very little filling ! And I'm not the kind of person that needs a ton of filling to be satisfied… But it would be nice to at least have something in there 🙄 So for nearly 6 dollars I paid for a bunch of dry dough . I checked the other Apple turnovers, and they were exactly the same inside . Writing this review was an afterthought because I was so angry after thinking about it . I just wish I would've taken a picture of what was inside of them before I fed them to my raccoon outside . Perhaps, if my curiosity wins, I'll buy another four pack and see if that wasn't just a one off . If they are empty again, I WILL take a photo of it. Shame on you WM. You're now part of the disgusting, corrupted, unfair to your customer base, greedy groups that ppl end up boycotting. Charging close to six dollars for Apple turn it over is that have no filling is inherently wrong and you know it . You know people don't want to just eat a bunch of dough . The fact that you approve of it and enforce it makes YOU a huge part of the problem.. Especially now when ppl have no money to play with due to your huge inflation prices, taxes and memberships. It all adds up. If they're going to be empty again like they were today… they definitely won't be worth me wasting any money on them again . Ppl WILL begin to catch on once it hurts enough.
Adding to the same comments, it's clear Walmart doesn't listen! First off, place a SAFETY SEAL on your dang containers!!! Can you say BLUE BELL ice cream?! Next, look what I found under the Apple turnover I was eating, and I actually took a bite of it! SERIOUSLY?! Hey Walmart, COSTCO opened not far away and HEB is a comin soon near you. Your deaf ears are losing us valuable customers! Since you obviously don't care, we'll go where they value is customer!!!
The outside texture of the turnover was very mushy, soft. Also there was hardly any apples inside. I love a good apple turnover but this was not good. Maybe the manager should try one and see what I mean. Otherwise I still love my Walmart, your produce is always fresh and I thank you for that. Also wanted you to know I have been shopping at a Walmart since you came to Phoenix in the 1980's over on 15 ave %26 35 ave %26 Bethany Home rd.
They are tasty, but the box doesn't have any seal, so it always gets open during delivery and makes a mess. Also, it's not sanitary, anybody could easily open and close the box back. Please, add some protective paper seal, it's not so expensive to make.
It's hard to say whether we liked them or not. There were four pastries but there was NO apple filling in them! None!! Not very little...there was NONE. Nothing in ANY of the four. There was not even any apple flavor. Won't buy these again. That's too much money for absolutely nothing.
I feel cheated. Four apple turnovers were sold to me for $5.44 ($1.36 apiece). Perhaps I should give the item more than one star, because there was nothing wrong with the flaky crust. But THERE WAS NO APPLE FILLING, almost as if a bakery employee had dipped a small brush into a pot of apple filling and basted the inside of the turnover shell. THERE WAS ALMOST NOTHING THERE. It was like I had been given only part of an apple turnover kit, nothing but a flaky crust, without any small plastic cup of apple puree filling. I feel ripped off. Needless to say, I won't make the mistake of ordering that item again. It makes me wonder whether pies from the Walmart bakery contain more than a hint of filling. Perhaps I should have expected the poor quality, because several years ago I ordered apple fritters from the same Walmart Superstore in Vancouver, Washington (the closest Walmart to my residence), and that item arrived with baked dough, covered by frosting, but not containing any discernible pieces of apple. So cheap that I felt cheated then, too.
I have bought these turnovers before %26 these 4 were hard to chew %26 very little apple flavor. Also, the date on the container is good to 11-21-25. I rec'd them at 2:15 pm. 11-20-25. I am disabled %26 am lucky to have my order delivered but cannot get them returned for replacement without transportation! How else can I get a refund? I was so looking forward to having them again...
I don't know what is going on with Walmart. Over the last four to five months, I've been receiving spoiled (see attached photo of moldy apple turnover) or expired items, broken packages, and substitutions when I know the product was available at the store. Even though I know the money will be refunded, I still have to go without the product I purchased. I am disabled, and to purchase, I have to buy more than $35 or I will be charged $7, which I can't afford on a disability check. I truly believe the shoppers are not paying attention when they choose the products we are purchasing. As mentioned, I'm unable to travel to the store and depend on this service for the few things I can buy.
