Overall these are a far superior roll for all kinds of uses. We mostly use them for Italian sausage sandwiches. We drench these in grilled onions and green peppers with a sauce - so these normally would make a roll fall apart because of all the fluid - but they hold together just fine. We've also used them for subs. The bread is great - tasty, great texture and they make whatever you put on them that much better. These are a TEN - awesome! You can not go wrong with these!
I actually found these 1 day when I was looking for buns to make Cacoila sandwiches. And I'm so glad I found them, they were FANTASTIC!!! Unfortunately, they haven't been in stock since... It's been 3 weeks, like REALLY??? What's a customer gotta do to get what they're looking for? Come on people, get on the ball!!!
My partner is the one who primarily uses these, but these have been instrumental in helping him eat more during the day, I'm not kidding! He decided that a sandwich while he was out during the week would only be doable if it was the right size, and these little rolls help you make a “half size” sandwich very easily. The value is great for the amount that you get. My star deduction is only for texture since it does seem like it can be a little bit on the dry side, especially if you pick up a bag that might have been there for a couple of days. They are easy to slice open with a serrated knife and keep well in the fridge. Great, accessible size.
Because Walmart doesn't let us edit reviews... I am adding photos for the Freshness Guaranteed Bolillo rolls to this review. I make Spooky Eye meatball subs for my sons every Halloween, which the Bolillos are perfect for! The French rolls are terrific too for everyday sandwiches, and have a nice sort of stretchy chew.
Walmart has a great bakery. rolls are very fresh. these have a nice chew for a basic cold cut sub, egg and cheese, or steak and cheese. they had a good freshness date but if ordering delivery, that can be problematic depending who shops your order. most shoppers don't check. these were delicious though
These are a great size. Most other sandwich rolls are too big, too soft, or both. These are sturdy buns that hold up to sauce and don't push you to eat a bigger sandwich than needed. They are sturdy enough that you can even scoop out a bit of the bread to make room for even more fillings without the sandwich falling apart. (Air or oven dry what you remove to make your own bread crumbs.) They are a great bread for dips, too.
I use these steak rolls to make burger dips. I toast the buns first then assemble the burgers and serve with a side of au jus for dipping. The bread holds up perfectly without falling apart or becoming too soggy. The expiration date is usually only 2 days out when I receive these so I keep them in the freezer if I can't finish the bag up right away. They're just as fresh and yummy after defrosting. These are smaller rolls (approx 4" long).
Do not call a sub roll a steak roll if the thing can not hold a cheese steak in it!!!!!!! That is straight false advertising!!!!!!! The things are mini sub rolls and will not hold a whole cheese steak in them. They have definitely labeled this the wrong thing, or are just total morons with no culinary training
A day and a half later it was green with mold. I'm going to stop ordering foods, I'm getting the worst quality stuff when you shop for me. I already stopped by a Meats there unless it's hamburger, because you always give me stuff that are about to expire and it's tough.
These rolls have been getting smaller every time I order. Called a steak roll but width is no bigger than a hot dog bun %26 only 4 inches long. At first I passed it off as new employee not proofing long enough, but month after month same pitiful little roll, but price is still same. 😖
