This cake seems to be made especially to go with strawberries and whipped cream! I buy the frozen strawberries (Great Value) and put them over a slice of this cake, then top it with whipped cream. This is great for a dieter's dessert just as long as you don't add sugar and take just a reasonable portion and don't allow yourself to get carried away. FYI, a 'reasonable portion' is about the amount that a restaurant would serve you.
This has become my "go to" cake for making Strawberry Shortcake. It's light, fluffy and sweet. At first I was Leary about buying so much of it, but one of Walmart's bakery employees told me it freezes really well. You can actually put this in your freezer (without the strawberries of course) and have it ready when you have guests (or Grandkids) drop in for a visit. It thaws quickly and tastes like it's never been frozen...FRESH! Good stuff and as of this writing, reasonably priced.
A little cheaper than most stores. Don't know why they are so expensive $7-$9, since the cake mix is $3. A lot are sold in loaves which lose texture and taste. Like this one because it's texture is good. Easy to cut. Most squish down when cut. Same great flavor. Could be a little more brown on top. Add strawberries and whip cream for a great dessert. Yum!
Grew up having angel food cake wiith strawberries and cool whip topping. This took be back to my childhood. Soft and stayed fresh for over a week only because I had self control and didn't eat it all the first day. It's also good on it's own. Ivenever tried it but sure the angel food cake would be great with most berries, scoop of ice cream or a chocolate syrup.
So this angel food is very much a cake not squishy like regular angel food cake. My favorite is at a grocery store "K" down the street. Has an angel food flavor. I have to smother it with.cool whip to not be so dry. I wish it was real angel food.
I buy these at Kroger so I thought this would be the same but it wasn't. You know how you have to put a dash of salt in something sweet to make it taste right well in my view this just has a sickeningly sweet taste almost artificial tasting. If you haven't had any other one you may not know the difference but I do and I will not purchase this again here.
This is NOT made the way actual angel food cake is made. The texture and taste is exactly like plain white cake. I literally spit it out because I wasn't expecting that stark difference in taste and mouthfeel.
Sorry to say but it was awful!😞 so stale and dry. The regular Angel food cake is always fresh and soft, but this ring style was awful. Not sure why? You’d think angel food cake is fairly the same across the board. When the full cake is not available I will not settle for this.
the worst cake I have ever eaten, bar none. if i could see my order ( not showing in the app) would return it! I am glad that was not the first bakery item I had purchased from Walmart or I would cancel my membership!!!
As soon as I removed the plastic lid I was assaulted with a very "strong" odd metallic Odor. I threw it in my trash it was so awful bad smelling. This was before I found out you did not do refunds, only returns of items. Only if I had known. Well, I will never buy it again.
