I haven't had dessert shells or “strawberry cups” as we used to call them since I was a child. I never liked them. My husband asked me to order them. They were delicious and tasted like little individual bakery cakes!! I bought several more for my freezer !!
I have seen the same type of product priced at $5 in a major grocery chain. Definitely not worth even half of that! When I put sugared strawberries on these cups they get real mushy real fast. I like angel food cake and pound cake better for berries, but those cost twice as much per serving. NEWLY DISCOVERED REPLACEMENT FOR SHORTCAKE - I just tried frozen pancakes as my 'shortcake' with berries and I really like it. I cut up two pancakes into squares before adding berries and cream or whipped cream. They have a nice chewy texture that is not mushy. I did not notice the buttermilk ingredient interfering with the dessert flavors.
Always fresh, soft, and moist. These are the perfect size for various desserts or to just eat plain as is. I also put a layer of frosting and sprinkles on each of these and pass out to children at parties, they are less messier than cake and cupcakes and the kiddos love them!!! I do the same at the large get-together over the holidays and it really saves time!!!
We love strawberry shortcake and have it often. Although my favorite is to have it on a warm biscuit, I always have these little shortcakes on hand to make a quick and very tasty treat. You can grab just one, or make a double decker. You can have one anytime….snacks, deserts, or even for breakfast as we often do.
Freshness Guaranteed Vanilla Dessert Shells are comfort food for me. I grew up eating these little cakes covered with strawberry slices soaked in a bit of sugar until they created their own juice. In the photograph below I used Great Value frozen blueberries with a bit of honey and a dollop of cottage cheese. A clean ingredient version of this little cake would make it even better. It makes dessert a bit fancy and it's delicious!
We topped these with canned mandarin oranges and cool whip. It was delicious. These have a great texture and taste. I do find them to be overpriced though. They're just mini vanilla cakes. They shouldn't cost this much. Cake mix is like $1 and makes far more than this. I guess you're paying for convenience, but convenience still shouldn't cost this much.
Made a great strawberry shortcake. Affordable. Always buy these every summer. My only issue is they stick to the package but it does help putting them in the fridge.
The cheese in the jar is so good on chips I eat them every other day. I'm a cheese lover anyway. But, I choose that jar of cheese over the other stuff…..
I was disappointed with these Walmart dessert shells. They tasted stale right out of the package, and one of the shells was already broken before I even opened it completely. The texture was dry instead of fresh and crisp, which ruined the dessert I was making. I usually expect better quality control. Would not purchase again.
The product was crushed and un useable. The driver tried to carry too many items at once and perhaps crushed the dessert shells. The Nerds box was also damaged
