Works as advertised, but note that countertop units (all brands/models) are not a "set it and forget it" machine. If you want an ice maker that has on demand ice sitting in it ready for you 24/7 (i.e. equivalent of a freezer ice machine), these units are not a great option because they a) require constant attention (filling water, emptying ice bin) and b) are not cold/insulated enough in the bin to keep the ice from melting throughout the day.
The unit does work perfectly though to fill up an existing freezer, or to supplement an existing automatic ice maker, or during parties/high demand periods whereby the ice will be used before it melts in the bin (note it takes hours to melt, so the ice remains perfectly usable as long as you either use it, or empty the bin in a reasonable time).
The machine makes clear, square(ish) ice the size of a quarter (see pics). It does not make perfect, evenly sides squares, it makes parallelograms with a dimple on 1 side (dimple visible in pics). The timer(cube size) button does not change the cube dimensions, it simply determines how full or empty that dimple is when the ice ejects by shortening or lengthening how long the water runs over / fills in the grid.
The machine is not noisy, but you can hear the fan in a quiet room. If a TV is on, you won't notice the machine at all (except when the ice ejects into the bin).
Some reviews note a problem with the ice sticking and not ejecting into the bin. I've yet to encounter this issue. My guess is they did not level their unit. it is important to make sure the unit is level during use as the design uses gravity to fill the cubes AND to eject. If the unit is not level, the water will not fill the grid evenly, some cubes will be thicker than others, or worse, if the unit is tilted backwards, the angle won't be enough for the ice to fall out during thaw/eject cycle. Simply make sure you put it on a level surface and that the water is running over each column of cubes evenly and you won't have stuck ice.
I prefer the -6 (fastest) setting as the ice is easy to break up and is more chewable, have had zero issues with the unit so far, and would recommend for persons who a) have no (or a broken) freezer ice maker, need to supplement an existing freezer unit, or have frequent need of on demand ice during parties/events.
