For my air conditioning needs, I was deciding between an 8,000 BTU Inverter AC Unit and an 8,000 BTU Standard AC Unit, both from Frigidaire. Having purchased a Frigidaire 10,000 BTU standard AC unit last year, I was generally pleased with its performance, so I chose to stay with the same brand and opted for a smaller unit for my kitchen.
I was particularly drawn to the inverter model due to its lower operating costs—especially since electric bills in Connecticut are sky-high! Additionally, it dehumidifies more moisture from the air per hour compared to the standard 8K unit. I absolutely dislike humidity, so I often run it in Dry mode. This unit effectively reduces humidity, making the room comfortable and cool.
However, I do have a few concerns. First, I need to adjust to the fact that inverter units take longer to reach the desired temperature compared to standard AC units, which provide immediate cooling. Secondly, while it is marketed as quieter, I have noticed a low rattling, droning noise when the automatic fan compressor slows to its lowest setting. This sound isn't very appealing and makes me miss the airy white noise of a standard AC unit. Since it's located in my kitchen, it doesn't bother me too much, but I would think twice about using it in a bedroom or living room where one would spend more time.
