We upgraded to the Frigidaire 20 cu ft upright freezer after having a 9 cu ft deep freeze. All I can say is I wish I upgraded sooner! Being able to see everything is phenomenal. No more freezer burnt food that got lost at the bottom. I did spend some extra money to buy organization containers to utilize the space as much as I could.
We had this same freezer in our home for 5 years. We recently moved and our freezer had to stay with our house. We never had a problem with it, so we immediately purchased a identical one, newer model of course. We love this freezer, it fits everything! The newer model seems to have better placement of racks and door shelves. It is the same size freezer, but it just seems to hold more. We put plastic bins on each rack to hold our food. Works great. If we ever need another, we would happily buy a third.
I bought this upright freezer to replace a chest freezer that I had for over 25 years, which finally died on us. Since It was such a pain to have to empty out the chest freezer every couple months, to rotate the contents such that the newest stuff was now on the bottom and the oldest stuff was on top, where it was easy to grab without digging, I decided to get an upright, where I can see everything at a glance. My chest freezer had about 12.5 cubic ft. of REAL capacity (as opposed to advertised capacity). Since Frigidaire didn't make an upright that small, I decided to get a larger one, most likely in the 16-20 cu ft., range, and went to the store with a tape measure to determine the true capacity of the models. All they had in stock was the 16 cu ft. and the 20 cu ft. and since I had meat thawing out, I needed to take whatever was in stock. I measured the interiors of both the sizes and discovered that the interior of the 16 was actually less, but the interior of the 20 really was as advertised. As a result, I bought the 20, and am I ever glad I did. What I didn't consider was that the items in my chest freezer were tightly packed on top of one another, which simply isn't possible in an upright. Also, the bottom drawer in the upright is not shaped as well as it could be for maximum capacity and I ended up having to put bins on the other racks and stuff the door shelves solid in order to fit everything in. This freezer really does need an addition al rack, but ordering one is not as easy as you would expect and was far too costly to be an option. In the end, I got 99% of the contents from the chest freezer into the larger upright, with the reminder going into the freezer of my refrigerator. Although the instructions indicated that the green power light would flash until the interior reached the set temperature, it was a steady green from the time I plugged it in (after letting it set for 2 hours after delivery, since it was transported upright. I am sure glad that it was, because I am not sure my meat could have waited the 12 hours it would have needed to sit if it had been transported laying down). I read a lot of reviews about these models being extremely noisy, but mine is almost silent. I was able to partly resolve the issue of it rolling forward whenever the door is opened, by putting the metal furniture coasters with the fabric on the bottom, under each of the wheels, before beginning to load it (I am REALLY glad I read the complaints about this drawback and was able to at least address it in advance). I read the comments about how hard it is to access the temperature control after it is full, so I turned the dial to max cold before loading it. Although it doesn't get as cold inside as I would like (as measured by new digital freezer thermometers), it should be adequate for our needs. Time will tell as to whether this upright will last as long as my chest did, but if it does, this will have been a great purchase.
We have had this freezer for just over a month. It has an incredible amount of storage. We love the storage that is available in just the door alone. We will be adding some bins inside to organize our different meats. Runs very quiet. We put this in our garage so the garage ready feature was a must have for us. Love the green floor light to indicate that the freezer is running correctly.
Freezer size is great with adjustable racks to allow for customizing. Bought 6 clear plastic bins and labeled them for easier access. Temperature stays consistent and seal is great. I tried changing the door swing to open the other way, but for some reason the door just wouldn't fit properly. I'm not a rookie at these things, but after a significant amount of time trying to troubleshoot the problem, I reinstall it back to original. All in all, it is a great size and fit through doorways with no problem.
Our chest freezer died and we chose the upright to replace it. Very happy with it. The lighting is only at the top which is a bit of a miss, but otherwise it's great. Super easy to access food, and to see everything you have in the freezer. No more digging around!
We purchased this freezer about two months ago. It is more spacious inside than we first thought. You can stack quite a few things on the shelves as well as the bins inside the door. At the bottom of the freezer is a larger bin where I put odd items like frozen meals in ziplocs. I love how I can see everything when I open the door and the light inside makes it even easier to see everything! I also appreciate the green light at the bottom front outside the freezer which lets us know that the freezer is running smoothly. Everything freezes quickly as well. All in all, a great product so far in our opnion!
Love the size and amount of shelves on door for extra storage. Do not like the clicking sound it makes when, I assume, the frost free feature is running. This is not a huge thing but was not mentioned when we purchased the freezer. Overall happy with our purchase.
All upright freezers should come with sliding baskets instead of shelves. My freezer is large enough that I can use milk crates to keep my food in otherwise the packages slide off the shelves and can break a toe. Not all frozen food comes in regular shaped packages that ae stackable.
I bought this freezer to replace 2 smaller freezers that were getting quite old. I am happy with the size capacity . I would like to see it come with smaller wire baskets that would fit on the shelves. This would make it much easier to store things like fruits and vegetables. The one large basket that it comes with is very handy. Overall, very impressed.
