I've ate a lot of chicken in my 68 yrs.. but I can't ever remember cooking or eating a chicken that was so tough! I baked it rubbed it down with butter and olive oil.. seasoned it well. I promise you she was one tough hen.. she didn't have to worry about bringing no roosters to the yard! She was also an expensive hen .. I just knew she would be tasty but I was so disappointed. I make chicken salad out of my left overs. I couldn't even get the leg quarters off the bone. I threw out a lot of chicken. So it was wasted money.
( I baste my roast chickens every thirty minutes to keep it juicy) and even after all the basting, it was still like chewing on rawhide. Disgusting and inedible is being nice!!!! This had the texture of a turkey, marked as chicken, and it was so bad that we threw it out. I have a second frozen one that I will be returning to the store as I refuse to waste the time or propane to cook it
This chicken was a sub, which I approved, but I would not recommend it to anyone. The skin was so tough that I couldn't remove the wings or thighs, I couldn't even cut through them with a knife. We could only eat the breast meat, I threw the rest of the chicken in the trash.
Chicken was extremely tough when cooked. When I took it out of the package it had brown spots that looked liked bruises. I cooked it anyway and it was really bad. It was strangely, juicy but extremely tough. I wound up up throwing into a pit of water to make dog food, very low quality chicken. Will not buy again.
I have been cooking chickens for over 40 years and this was the eorst chicken I hsvevever seen. It was hard. I thawed it so it was not frozen. It was hard. I can't even describe it. It was just awful looking and I didn't let anyone eat it first fear it was bad. I will never buy from them again.
This was the toughest meat I've ever had. All the seasoning and basting that was done, could not save it. It was flavorless and the skin did not even get brown. Unfortunately, my family meal didn't go as planned. We stomached what we could and tossed the rest.
The texture of this **hen** was horrible – extremely tough, rubbery, and almost impossible to chew, no matter how long I cooked it. The taste was just as bad, with a strong, gamey flavor that made it unpleasant to eat. I'm very disappointed with this hen and will not purchase it again.
I ordered a different whole chicken but my shopper did not find that one so replaced with this one. This is the worst chicken I've ever had to cook. I initially planned to cut it up for a stew but my knives could barely get through it and my knives are sharp! After a lot of work, I finally got one drumstick off and decided to roast it instead. The skin is literally as hard as rubber I could barely get my fork through and the meat is equally as hard. I wish I was able to upload the video. 0/10 do not recommend. Waste of money.
I have never roasted such a tough bird in my life. I've been roasting chickens, guinea hens, turkeys, duck, even goose, for decades, so I am very comfortable roasting poultry. I was a bit surprised, once the bird was out of the package by the thickness of the skin, and the extremely large quil holes in the tail, indicating to me, an older bird. nonetheless, I dry brined, buttered, and trussed the bird and followed my generally no fail roasting procedure. This bird would not cook. I kept checking it, the internal temp was low, the thick skin became rubbery rather than crisping. The meat was dense and fibrous and unpleasant. We ended up throwing the entire thing out after trying a few bites. even the cat wasn't interested. I have no idea what was wrong with the bird, but it's was literally inedible, uncuttable, and unpleasant.
If I could give this chicken a zero, I would. I baked my chicken (about 6 lbs)for over 5 hours on 350 setting and it was like rubber. I cooked for an additional 30 minutes on 400 and the chicken still did not cook. I pulled on both legs simultaneously after removing it from the oven and they did not even separate from the rest of the chicken. Yes my oven was working properly.
