Fuel Pureformance Adjustabell™ Dumbbell, Quick Select 5-50 Pounds, Single

These dumbbells are manufactured by CAP barbell company and are identical to the CAP adjustabell dumbbells. They fit perfectly on the CAP adjustabell rack, which is what I have, in case you can't find the FUEL rack. They are essentially the same as the Core Home Fitness adjustable dumbbell (also manufactured by CAP) and probably would fit that rack as well, but I don't know that for sure. The rack is not essential but is nice to have. The only problem is that you have to go up in 5 lb. increments, so if that is too big of an increase for you, you need to get some wrist weights to use in conjunction with the dumbbells. I have them in 1.5 and 2.5 lb. sizes. Otherwise, the dumbbells appear to be well made and are very easy to use. I would advise against dropping them, however.

So far, I like these dumbbells. They're extremely easy to adjust with a simple twist of the wrist, increase in 5-lb increments, and are easy to handle. The one minor drawback is that the cradle will stick to the dumbbell when try to extract it using the full 50-lb weight. In that case, you just need to hold down the cradle with your foot. This problem doesn't occur with any other weight size. I initially bought the FitRx dumbbells (for the same price on Walmart) and I liked them a lot, as they're very solidly built, can adjust in 2.5lb increments, and replicate the far-more-expensive BoxFlex dumbbells. However, those came with a big drawback. They were VERY long. They were 17" in length, and unfortunately, the dumbbell was the same length whether I was using 5 lbs or 50 lbs. This made it very difficult to do chest presses, shoulder presses, etc without the ends of the dumbbells crashing into each other. Fortunately, my friend had these Fuel dumbbells and I was able to test them. I like them much better because they are designed in a way where the length is dependent upon how much weight you're using, just like regular dumbbells (eg, 30 lbs has a 12" length vs 17" with the FitRx). Plus, the ends of Fuels are flat, vs rounded ends for the FitRx, making them easier to place on your knees. So I sold the FitRx and bought the Fuels. So far, so good.

I am very impressed with this dumbbell. It is well built, easy to adjust and prefect for a home gym. I weighed the dumbbell at each interval and it was .2 of a pound light. This variation is on par with the most expensive dumbbells, so I cant deduct a star for that. The FUEL logo on the stand was scratched which is annoyance, though the weight was extremely well packaged in foam and a heavy duty cardboard box. Functionality- The dumbbell is comfortable in the hand. The grip is wide enough for a large mitt and the diameter is adequate. It is well balanced though it is a little awkward until you get used to it (realize how many different weights you actually have.) Adjustment is easy and can only be done with the weight on the base. There is no way for the weights to separate while in use. With a simple turn of the handle you adjust the dumbbell by 5 pound increments. I did find the 2.5 pound weights would stay attached when set to 15 pounds but after a few uses, this seemed to stop. The 2.5 pound weights would drop back into the base when the dumbbell was lifted, but they would somehow stick. Possibly a defect? Other adjustable dumbbells sell for twice as much as the FUEL and they aren't as good.

Great price, I've been looking forever for a pair of dumbbells that don't cost $700 or more. They work really well, super easy to adjust the weights, just twist the handle. I've had them for only a week but have used them multiple times. Will update if quality ever changes.

Adjustable dumbbells with incremental changes using a slide/lock mechanism. So far have not encountered issues with them. Sometimes they feel flimsier than traditional equipment but that's to be expected with moving parts. Overall, we've been usjng them since November without any malfunction or injury. In terms of pricing, they blow competition away.

I have to mention the flaw first because it is dangerous. Friction forces are forces that keep things stuck together. Think of a door stuck but you're pulling as hard as you can. I set my weights to 35lbs to do lunge squats when all of a sudden i see a weight plate flying off and slam on the floor. Omg I thought, instant return. But when I first got them, i inspected the engineering and learned how they did their magic. There's even a safety release on the bottom to prevent entry and exit of weight plates ... So what happened? Friction forces are what happened. When i set weight to 35lbs, the remaining plates (just one of them) got stuck on the dumbbell since it sits in a groove on the outside and friction forces picked it up. Eventually with enough shake and motion the friction forces were less than centrifugal and the weight flew off. Not exactly an engineering flaw, but a rubber and materials flaw. Just make sure when you change your weight that it looks balanced and identical to your other hand and give it a good shake. Still my favorite pair of dumbells and 5 stars in my book. But that plate falling was a scare, since I got these for chest press.

One of the dumbbells was defective and wouldn't click correctly past 25 lbs, so I had to return them. The return/exchange process was really easy. Originally the delivery date was over a month and they arrived within a week of placing the order. I do like them though and reordered another pair so I'm hoping these next ones work out.

This is the second dumbbell that Ive purchased the first arrived perfectly fine, but this ones handle is defective. Whenever I try and change the weight by turning the handle it often gets stuck and when you try and pull it out it usually brings another plate along with it that isnt the correct weight you chose.

weights dont attach/detach properly. set to 10lbs, picked up 15 lbs and the extra weights fell off after a few reps also upon unpackaging cut finger pretty deeply on unfinished piece of plastic that was sticking out at the seam (barely grazed finger, didnt even realize i was touching it at first)

I had such high hopes for these dumbbells. Was hesitant to get them as they are cheaper than most adjustable ones out there right now, but the reviews were just so overwhelmingly positive. Upon first opening the box, the cap on the end of the end of the handle was already popped off and the snap ring that is supposed to hold it was bent. Easy enough fix, but if that can happen while in foam packaging, doesn't speak well as to how it'll hold up. Next I noticed when I would try and use 15lbs, one of the dumbbells refused to release the inner 2.5lb weight on one side, would have to pry it off. Not what I'm paying for with quick change dumbbells. The last straw was using 10lbs...the 2.5lb weight literally detached from the handle and went flying. I'm thankful I didn't have it over my head or feet! Will be returning these, and spending a little more money for some quality.
