Gaiam Jute Yoga Mat

I found multiple reviews written by yoga instructors recommending the jute mat to their groups for its versatility and stability, which helped me decide to pull the trigger. This replaced my daily home use mat, and stays unrolled in my living room. The color and jute fabric are lovely to keep on display; the quality makes this look like a luxurious rug that belongs in the space. This mat has a firm feel with an interesting texture that keeps me far more stable than any standard squishy mat, but still provides enough cushion on a hardwood floor. I was initially worried about the jute fibers shedding or scratching me, but have not had any issues so far. This yoga mat is impressive in its quality for the price, and I see why yoga instructors use and recommend this!

I bought this mat and loved it. Then I bought 3 more of them! I practice Yoga with a group and recommended this mat. Almost everyone in the group uses this mat now. I do not lose balance because of my feet slipping.and there is adequate padding to use it on a gym floor. I have even bought these mats and given them away to other devout Yoga practicing friends because I have so much confidence in them. I am a longtime Yogi...it literally changed my life for the better.

I was concerned it would be scratchy, but the blend of mat with jute makes it non slip (not sticky!) without scratching my elbows or hands. It's thick and works well for my casual practice on carpet and floor. Size is a little narrow, but workable! Might be concerned about jute slivers in the future?

So beautiful that I don't even feel the need to hide it in a closet. Fantastic materials and looks chic rolled up in a basket in my living room. Only used it twice but really enjoying it so far

I bought many yoga mats but this is the worthy purchase I have so far. I also bought the non slip towels and very in love with them. I feel I invested in th right product for my health and life style.

I love this mat! I alternate between this and the Performance Power Grip Mat in my practice. I use this mat for warm flows, yin & outdoor classes ad the Performance Power Grip mat for hot flows. The jute material of this mat makes me feel very grounded and safe, I can really get deep into my practice and body on this mat without worrying about slipping.

I absolutely love this mat, but I must admit that I can see how someone with very soft/sensitive skin may struggle to adjust to its mildly abrasive texture. My palms, elbows, and knees peeled a little bit after the first use (but not my feet since those are already accustomed to rough surfaces). But it wasn't painful, and I didn't feel any discomfort while actually on the mat. I love that I never have to worry about sliding around on this mat-I sweat a lot, so a non-slip surface is a must for me! It stays flat when rolled out (no curling at the edges in my experience with it so far), and is also very easy to clean after each workout. I also love the way the mat looks. It's very pretty, and the colors are exactly as seen in the images.

I love this mat. I alternate between this & the cork yoga mat. It was a little itchy at first but I got use to it. Great for cardio, yoga, & strength training.

This product was TERRIBLE. First of all, I was in a slightly heated studio and my hands and feet had no traction. Especially in down dog and when doing plank. Second, the jute tore up the skin on my feet when doing warrior 1 and 2. It physically hurt. 3. When doing forearm plank, regular plank or any hand/arm balances, the jute dug into my skin making it uncomfortable mfortable. I didn't even care about the gross pvc smell because most mats have that. But man oh man, please don't buy this.

The jute fibers shed & get stuck in any yoga pants or tights causing pain, itching, & discomfort all day! It's a shame because I really wanted a more eco-friendly non-slip option.
