Longer, Wider, Better

Witchy Librarian January 14, 2017

Although yoga is intended for all kinds of people, it seems like yoga products are very specifically geared towards petite females. However I just knew that Gaiam would have what I need! My husband had been interested in doing yoga with me, but was disheartened when he couldn't find a mat that wasn't flowery, or tall enough for his over 6' frame. We've used it a few times since I got it, and it is thick enough for our tile floor, long enough for him to spread out for corpse pose, and sticky enough so he doesn't slide. I've had a Gaiam mat for a year now and it is still going strong, and I know he'll get just as much satisfaction out of his~

Right on point!

Yoga Newbie December 4, 2017

As a yogi that has become more proficient in my practice, I have outgrown my first mat, which I've decided was too narrow and too short for my comfort level and set out searching for a longer, wider mat for me to spread myself out on. This mat totally hits the mark - wide, long, cushy enough yet firm to keep from slipping. I love it!

Pleased with this purchase!

I use this yoga mat for floor exercises at home - not yoga, but stretches for my chronic low back pain. I like the larger size and thickness of it very much!

Slippy to Grippy in about a week

Andrew April 17, 2020

I use this for my at home practice and it works great! My only complaint is that it takes time for the power grip to start gripping and stop slipping. Not long though- maybe 10 sessions. I used the Gaiam Yoga Mat Cleaner after each session and that seemed to help speed it up compared to what I read in other people's reviews. Also if you're not sure about which height/length to get, I'm a 6'2 male and the 74" is about right for me. The normal length would've been too short.

Excellent mat for the price point!

Nikki April 15, 2020

I have bad knees, so I really wanted the extra thickness. The width was an added bonus. I'm not particularly tall, but the length of the mat lets me flow in and out of poses without having to walk up/down on the mat. Some minus points that I have worked around: - New mat "fragrance" - air it out for a couple of days and it should go away. - Like many other reviewers have pointed out, the mat is nontrivially slippery when it is new. I wiped it down with a mixture of dish soap and water, let it dry, and the grip has improved significantly since. Might not hurt to make this a weekly thing to maintain the grip.

Love the Length

Ana Gee September 23, 2016

I've had my mat for a week. I am 5'1" and 230 lbs. Due to my tummy, I travel around a lot on the mat. Usually, during sun salutations I would run out of mat space. I'm happy to say, I now stay within the mat. The mat is a little slippery and I hope to adjust. I only wish Gaiam had made a bag to accommodate the thicker girth when rolled up. I usually do a cycling class before yoga and need a gym bag to carry everything. I was able to find one but it's not a Gaiam bag.

Perfect size

Cored14 September 26, 2017

Finally I didn't have to have body parts off the mat! So nice not having to readjust. Only down side I experienced was I had a hard time keeping my feet from sliding. Could be the temperature change or just something since it was the first time being used. Time will tell!

Great if you're tall

Erik May 29, 2020

I use this mat for training and some yoga. What's great is I'm 6'2" 190 and I fit on it. It was the most affordable tall mat I could find. I am to big for regular mats. I'm not having to hang my feet or hands off the edges. It's pretty sticky, I don't slide on it and it's a nice thickness. It dose pick up dirt easily. Would give a 4.5 out of 5.

Tall people friendly, but slippery

Katie6ft March 6, 2017

I bought this around a month ago. I was so excited to know that there were yoga mats for tall people! The frustration of having to modify and reset my poses based on where I was on the mat was no longer an issue. After a few uses, I am considering returning it. It's become slippery with the slightest hint of wetness on my feet and when I start sweating in general. I've had my previous Gaiam yoga mat for over 10 years and I still don't have that issue. I just wanted an upgrade for comfort on this tall frame.

Not Reversible

Hubert April 7, 2019

This mat is advertised as reversible. However, the patterns of indentations on each side are different. One of the sides has a bit of grip and that's idael for poses like downward facing dog. The opposite side has almost no grip and, to me, is slightly slippery. Otherwise the mat is ok, so I would recommend it only if the buyer understands it's not reversible.
