Because I also bought and installed an owl decoy on my boat at the same time as I bought/installed this, I can't honestly say what effect, if any, this is having on the problem of discouraging birds from doing their business on my boat. But, just considering its very reasonable price, I think that the quality of the balloon, the "eyes" and the special "ribbons" make this something well worth giving a shot. It's really darned good quality for its low price. Try it. If you don't think it really makes a difference, you've only lost a few bucks. I bought this AND an owl decoy immediately upon buying and parking a pontoon boat in the canal in my backyard. I have been delighted that the amount of bird "mess" on my boat, after 2 weeks, is really, really minimal. Yet, at the same time, the small tweeting birds that populate my backyard have not been scared off, and, for that, I am very, very glad. I love hearing them and really didn't want to scare them away. Bottom line? Definitely, give this balloon a shot.
