I note that others felt this product to be a bit flimsy. Forewarned, I took a moment to assess where they might have done less than what is necessary to get the most rigidity built into the structure. Here's what I did. First...build the growhouse on a flat, level, hard surface. Build the sub-assemblies - and here's the secret - use multiple, moderate hits with a rubber mallet to drive all rods firmly into each plastic girder. Once all the sub-assemblies are confirmed to be solid and perfectly equal in size, go ahead and put it ALL together. You will know you did a good job if the cover fits well and the zippers come together with ease. Lastly, use nine zip ties to join each and every wire shelf to the cross-pieces. Three in back, three in the middle, and three in front. It's a LOT of zip ties, but this action alone GREATLY enhances the rigidity of the entire growhouse! Assembly took ~ 1/2 hour. Putting the zip ties on took longer than that...but again, it is DEFINITELY worth doing. You can always snip them off to re-configure the shelf arrangement.
I had one of these green houses for at least 5 years but the outer cover started shredding after all that time out in the rain, sun and wind which is understandable. I paid $79 for the original of the same brand when I bought it but at Walmart this time it was only $48 with free shipping to my home. Since the frame and shelves are still in great shape I'm just going to put the new cover on this one and keep the other frame just in case I find something to use it for. I'm thinking if I use Armoral on it each year it will hold up better. Keep the material flexible. As far as this handy little greenhouse goes it works great! You need to anchor it down so it doesn't blow away in the wind but it's easy because there are tabs to put cord through to tie it to something. I have mine right in front of a chain link fence so I tied it to that. I would recommend this to anyone who doesn't have a lot of space for a greenhouse.
I read the previous reviews before buying, and applied all the good advice. When you're fitting the various metal bars together, tap them in firmly with a rubber mallet or measured taps with a hammer, before adding the shelves, then tap down the corners of the shelves, too. Its easy as can be to put these together (I bought 2), takes maybe 20 minutes. True, the shelves are thin wire, but again I listened to previous reviewers and used zip-ties, front, back and sides of the shelves to 'weld' them to the bars and now they're perfectly firm in place. These units are very lightweight, I easily picked up the finished unit and moved it around. So, you do need some sort of supports to keep them from blowing over in the wind. I got a few 5' t-posts at my local home center and hammered them into the dirt on each side of the unit and one off-side at the front. Perfect. I'm very pleased.
This is a great product, good quality of cover and the zippers were well sewn into the cover. The shelves were just a little flimsy, but once pots were on them, they held the weight of the pots very well. We did anchor the bottom shelves with concrete stepping stones - in Colorado's high winds, it would have been in Kansas, by now! But, otherwise it's exactly what we wanted to get our plants going for spring. It was very easy to assemble and - as I said - great for small spaces or small homes. We may get another one next year for twice the space!
Pleasantly surprised, big enough to hold all of our flower and vegetable flats, and we have a LARGE garden! We tied it down securely cuz the wind can howl out here on the prairie and has held firm. We can hit the greenhouses early and keep the plants healthy and safe until the ground is warm enough to transplant. For under 60 bucks, can't complain!
Kind of lightweight, so when putting it outside I would recommend anchoring it somehow so a heavy wind, or your dogs, won't push it over. Other than that, it's more than what I expected. Very good size, very deep. I bought it for my wife and she loves it!
Ordered after reading reviews & not disappointed. In fact very happy with it. Can't beat it for the price. Very Sturdy Greenhouse with a few assembly tricks. Function: Small footprint but tall. Space between shelves allows all plants to get good light. Amount of space is surprising. I have 42 3" pots; 12 2" pots; 3 1/2 gallon pots; 2 gallon pots & still some room as not all shelves are full). It does get very hot with too much afternoon sun so I moved it to a morning sun spot. During the day I leave the door rolled up & close at night when too cool out. Would be nice if it had a vent on top (I may add one). Assembly: Followed reviewers recommendation to tap parts together with hammer (I padded end of hammer so I didn't dent/break parts). I assembeled 2 long sides first, then held them together to make sure they matched up (it took some, tap tap here there, adjusting so I'm glad I did it). Then installed bars that support shelves. I gave all joints a couple of wraps with black electrical tape, for strength and to prevent things from getting loose over time. This allows me to pick the whole thing up (empty of course) and relocate it. Also used electric tape to secure wire shelves (if not they could slip off when you pull trays in/out).
I bought this as an incubation "room" for my frog eggs and tadpoles. I chose this tall model because it wouldn't take up that much floor space; although, it should probably be anchored to the wall just to be safe. Pros: Lots of shelves (space) Small floor footprint Humidity cover Price Simple to build Cons: A little flimsy Humidity cover should have vents at top to allow greater temp control
The size is nice and it was easy to put together, but you have sturdy metal bars going into cheap plastic.a piece of plastic broke immediately on assembling the second shelf. The "shelves" are flimsy wire grates that "sit" over the bars. They slide, fall off etc. The plastic cover is thick so it would do well keeping the heat in for colder climates. you get what you pay for.
It was simple to put together but it is short 3 cross poles!!! so disapointed.
