This GPS had such an easy set-up with a straight-forward window mount! I needed to replace the current GPS that I use for areas where I don't get data and it worked well for the drive I took.
Very happy. Seems to have long battery life. I buy these because they seem to be more accurate than standard map apps or vehicle navigation. I like the split screen when you are coming up on exits on the interstate. Good for finding eating spots and gas along your route. Other features that just work better than most apps on your phone and operates totally independent of the phone so you can use that for other things and not lose the navigation guidance
Loved the good price and reliability of this product.
First the cons: This feels "cheap". It is lightweight and plastic and the viewscreen is small. That explains the low price point. Also the only American English voices (Samantha and Michelle) sound like real dullards. Pros: We've owned several Garmin GPS devices over the years. This one combines all my favorite features from previous models, so I'm very happy with it. Summary: While the unit itself is not the highest quality, the software is. And you can't beat the price.
I replaced a Tom Tom XL from 2007 that was getting quite slow. After a lot of research I settled on the Garmin Drive 51 EX GPS because of it's features, reviews and price. I am pleased with my purchase. I'm still learning all of it's features, just wish there was a printed user's manual in box.
The vendor sent me Garmin Drive 61 Ex the wrong model. The 51 EX is a current updated model. I would give a zero rating if it was permitted.
Strangely, Garmin wants remote access to your laptop(!), if you want to update your GPS device. The map couldn't find several addresses. For the ones it could find, it gave no alternate routes. The sw acts like 20 years ago: awkward and limited functionality. I got "network error" when tried to update the map, and the customer service told me to try tomorrow. (I still got the same problem "tomorrow". Btw, the cust.service does have an attitude. I am returning the device.
I have 3 other Garmins, same size screen....this new one I returned...I know how the screen should look.....well after adjusting the brightness setting as high as it would go...the background brightness is simply not as bright as previous ones I have from Garmin.......makes it dangerous to drive with as you have to take your eyes off of the road too long as you drive in order to try and look at the screen..
I bought the "latest model" in September 2020. I had to charge the battery for 24 hours. The first month when it came on it would show the battery level was low. Three months later it won't even come on. I took it to Walmart. I was told to go online and contact the seller. Seller? I bought it from Walmart. No, the seller is JGS... JGS said, "Your 30 days has expired, do you want to buy a new one?" Of course not, J., why would I buy another piece of junk from you?
Got the Garmin in the Mail. Plugged it into my laptop to check For updates. Only Nothing . It would not Hook up to the Garmin Update site which I used on my old one Only nothing I mean nothing . It would not even turn on fully all i got was this Wired screen . No way to connect . Nothing . Need to return for a refund
