I live in the Midwest where there are no mountains. "Mountain biking" here is more of a series of ups and downs. However, I wanted the accuracy of the 5 Hz recording. I put the Garmin MTB in Enduro mode and set it to downhill and just leave it. I climb and go downhill, all being captured in 5 Hz accuracy. It would be nice if the Mountain Biking setting would just record in 5 Hz all the time, but I realize Garmin is trying to give you maximum battery life.
Absolutely love my grandma edge mountain bike computer. I can’t believe I’ve written all these years without one. What a difference it’s nice to have all this information after I’m done riding.
I ride trails, road and whatever is fun. This is a great computer to use for everything. Works really well in off the grid spots on the trail and seems to work just as well for me on the road.
So far, so good. Haven't really gotten into all the features yet. Still need to figure out what I want to access and track on this one. Kind of excited to see the air time feature.
I chose this product over the new Edge 550 because I wanted a cycling computer with a durable screen I could trust to withstand daily use. I'm a road cyclist, and with that said, the Edge MTB is a great choice if you ride on the road or enjoy gravel and don't need all the metrics of the new 550. I'm happy with this product and hope to get several great years out of it.
Very happy with the edge MTB. Coming from the 1030 I struggle to read the text on screen. It would be really nice to have a text/font size adjustment, especially in brighter light. I also seem to be constantly, inadvertently pressing buttons when putting it on or taking it off the mount as they seem to be in the exact spots needed for proper leverage to lock/unlock on/from the mount, but I should get used to it in time.
Might need to be size of 530 but not complaining. I wear glasses except for riding, prescription, the screen is very clear. I can read everything well. I don't like it does not have wifi. Not a deal breaker at all but one less star. So the size of 530 and wifi would make it a 5 star for me. Garmin stepped up with the settings and using the iPhone. I have owned the Edge since the original early 2000s. I just upgraded to MTB and 540. I am super happy overall. the trail mapping is wonderful as well.
I have used the EDGE MTB a few times coming from an Edge 530 and find the screen a little small. I also find the trail forks to pop up when I am on trail with no forks and am forced to get out of the screen so I can see my stats. I am sure I can turn this feature off but want to use it when I am on an unknown trail.
Wish I could return this. I bought it in October with Expervoice, and it's VERY small, almost unusably small for doing intervals, or reading a map. The battery goes down very fast with power, radar/light, and map going all at the same time. The removable tabs on the back on the biggest highlight. Why havn't all GPS been doing that for the last 20 years. Don't waste your money on this one. Double check the measurements. You might want to save up and get one of the bigger solar models.
I bought this Edge about two months ago, and it is actually my fourth Edge device from Garmin. I purchased this model without thoroughly researching its features and assumed it would have the same advanced functionality as my previous Edges. Unfortunately, I’ve been disappointed for two reasons: No Touchscreen – This was my oversight, but I was surprised to find that this model does not have a touchscreen and must be controlled with small side buttons. It makes operation less convenient during rides. Frequent Reboots – More importantly, the device sometimes goes dark and reboots during my rides. This is very frustrating, especially when I’m on busy roads. During the reboot, I completely lose my radar connection and have to stop and wait for the device to restart, which feels unsafe. I’m not sure whether this is a hardware or software issue, but it needs to be addressed. Overall, I have always loved Garmin products and consider them well-designed and reliable. However, this particular model did not meet my expectations, and I regret this purchase.
