The product was exactly what I was looking for and was available at a price that was equal to or better than other sites.

Garmin Quality at a Great Price

Michael K November 24, 2025

I came from the 1030 Edge, which was somewhat problematic as far as connectivity and syncing activities and routes, but this one seems to be much better. Display appears to be a bit more visible in sunlight, and battery is better. It's easy to use, but I do wish the touchscreens were a little better in wet weather - totally usable, but I have to lock it when it's wet.

Nice upgrade

Daniel S November 26, 2025

I took a fall and broke the mounting tabs and screen on my 820. It was a good run for 5 years, so figured I'd just get the newer 850. Saw the deal on the 1040 and figured it might be worth it. Out of the box, the screen is brighter, way larger and the new operating system is much easier to work with. Way more features on it, love that it will show me my shifting on my new SRAM Rival AXS gravel set up as well. Haven't dug too much into all the info it generates, but the better GPS is noticeable on my wooded rides and the map will be great for some upcoming rides in the spring around Vermont.

Not too big

Ken A January 16, 2026

I was originally worried that this computer would just be too big but now I love it. The touch screen is fantastic though when it's cold and I have fingertip gloves on it doesn't register consistently. I'm better able to read texts without my cheaters.

Battery life is the headline

Mikethebiker January 30, 2026

Battery life and price were my priority with this purchase. I didn't want to shell out more money for the 1050 with much worse battery even though it has a better screen. I'm upgrading from an 830, so in all ways the experience with the 1040 is improved. Nothing will feel unfamiliar if you're upgrading from an older model. The reviews about the solar screen being a little harder to see aren't wrong. It's mostly fine, but don't expect it to perform like an iPhone screen. In situations where the sun is behind you and your body casts shadow on the computer it can be a little harder to see. Otherwise I think it's absolutely fine. I haven't run the battery dead, but even in winter conditions it looks like I should get at least 40 hrs of ride time on a charge. That is outstanding IMO. I just did a whole week of riding in Arizona and didn't even charge the thing.

Has everything you need and way more.

Aaron F December 2, 2025

The Edge has everything you could ask for in a cycling computer. The map integration is seamless, the battery life is outstanding, and it comes packed with far more features than I expected. From navigation to performance tracking, it handles it all effortlessly. If you want a reliable, feature-rich companion for every ride, the Edge 1040 is absolutely worth it.

Great features and details

Bruced September 30, 2025

I have had the product for about 3 weeks and have gone on about 12 rides so far. Very impressed with the battery life, screen display, and the features. I upgraded from an Edge 1000 so there are many new features with the Edge 1040. I really enjoy the Climb Pro feature so you can figure out how much effort to put in and how much longer you need to suffer. I cannot wait to try the WO mode on the trainer during the Winter months that I won't be outside.

Awesome Bike Computer

Bob25 January 1, 2026

My Edge 1000 recently broke, so I have been deciding between the 840, 1040 and 1050. The 1040 seemed to be more than adequate for the job. I couldn't see spending the extra cash for the 1050. But is was a tough decision between the 840 and 1040. I think the fact that I owned an Edge 1000 had me leaning more towards the 1040. With black Friday deals and Christmas time deals I had great prices for both the 840 and 1040. In the end I went with the 1040. I have only used the 1040 for MTB so far. It is awesome. Having trail information displayed is a great assist. I will also be using it in the future for triathlon/ironman events as I did with my Edge 1000, I am sure it will prove to be superb for that as well. I am still figuring out some things but that is to be expected. Great unit!

Solar - Bikepacking

Nancyrides. November 10, 2025

I bought my Edge 1040 Solar because I bikepack long distances. I just rode a 3 day ride and I was very happy I did not have to charge my Garmin every night. I still carried my charger just in case but the fact that the battery last much longer made me less worried of running out of power. I use a course with all the turn points and do not have it on power saver mode. I am happy with the technology and the new added screens Garmin has added. I love it

I unfortunately didn't install a screen protector and scratched the screen. Also the navigation can be at times glitchy. But besides these issues great product very polished and excellent battery life. I would recommend this for anyone that can afford it.
