The Garmin Force Current has completely changed the way I fish from a kayak. It's quiet, easy to use, and has more than enough power to get where I want to go without wearing myself out. The wireless foot pedals are probably my favorite feature because I can steer and adjust my speed while keeping both hands free to fish. I also really like the Anchor Lock feature. When I find fish, I can stay right on the spot without constantly reaching for a paddle. If you spend much time fishing from a kayak, this motor is definitely worth a look.
I have a lot of intense moments with this motor, I rated lower previously , because have some issues in three consecutive trips but I have it for 10 months and still have not used all the features and I have so much to learn. When everything works is the most amazing experience ever, however you can get frustrated dealing with minor issues. I am eager to get in the water more and learn to use it better everyday. It is truly the most advanced kayak trolling motor in the market.
Ive had a torqueedo for 4 years and switched to the garmin. The foot pedals take some practice, very easy to get yourself in trouble if you don't watch it. The integration into my 126SV is awesome...being able to select a way point on the map and it sending me there is pretty cool. The anchor lock is better than I anticipated. Between the foot pedals, the remote, and my graph there are 3 ways to control the motor. I do wish there was a button to return the prop to home position after anchor lock...only con I've come up with so far.
Purchased the current only a couple weeks ago, but even only after a few trips i am extremely impressed. It's clear that there was a lot of thought put into this motor. Everything from the mounting design, to the simple but effective stow and deploy system, to the heading hold feature that somehow works great from the stern. Everything is so dialed in for use on a kayak. Even with it being a very expensive product, it hasn't felt like I over spent a dime. I don't see how you could spend much less to get 5.5mph on a PA14 with GPS functionality. And that's not including the one of a kind wireless foot steering. Shout out to Garmin for really delivering.
Worth the price. I've had now mounted trolling motors on my kayak but they make the nose too heavy causing it to dig into waves. This solves that problem with enough thrust to keep me speedy, even on a heavy PA14. I have this paired with the foot pedals which makes it a hands free dream to operate.
absolutely love my garmin force current with pedals. the pedals are a little tight but other than that it works flawlessly. don't pay any attention to the videos saying anchor lock doesn't work in moving water or windy conditions. I have done both and it works great. you just want to line your kayak up so everything is in the right position. same as you would with an anchor. it looks right in and never moves much at all with heavy currents on the James river and it was really windy. I am using a cloud energy 24V 150AH battery. battery is awesome as well but the 100AH would have been the better choice as it is lighter and fully waterproof. I built a box for mine out of PVC board. I have never used even half of this battery and I am towing my son's kayak behind me and out there for hours. I didn't like the pedal supports that came with it so I made my own with treated plywood. this is all on a Kaku Guru Kayak. I did the camo painting myself with long grass and spray paint. Look on YouTube for how to camo it. I did tons of research on everything on the kayak and just wanted to share it all. have fun fishing.
The Force Current replaces a stern drive and trolling motor all in one unit. Spot lock works great and this is a perfect upgrade for my kayak. The wireless pedals are a little sensitive and take a little getting use to but not having to run wires made installation quick and simple. Definitely worth the investment.
Great unit there a learning curve I'm using just the remote to maneuver but it's easy once you get used to it. The unit is also super efficient draws 33.3 amps at max(20) speed wise 5.5-5.7 with high efficiency prop Bonafide PWR.Spot lock is just plain awesome being able to jog in 5 foot increments is great for positioning and adjusting to structure.
This trolling motor is awesome. The Bluetooth foot pedals take a day to learn - and then you can troll like a pro. I can go 5.6mph in my Hammer when I'm moving from spot to spot. I use the straight line feature almost 30% of my day. The anchor feature is especially nice on a windy day just as I've caught a fish and need to deal with it. I just bought a new Garmin finder and will be interested at how I use the bluetooth features.
Installation was a breeze. Faster than you think. Highly maneuverable. Anchor lock works as advertised, and the auto pilot features are worth the price of admission alone. Pedals are fun and a great idea. My one complaint so far is that the pedals are very aggressively set. There's not a lot of travel on them to go from prop zero to 20. It would be nice to be able to adjust the gain or sweep of the pedals so it's not as jumpy. I haven't found a way to adjust this yet, but I hope it is a future firmware update.
