4.7 was excellent choice for me

Kyle K June 19, 2026

Bought the 4.7 inch model to replace a dropped and destroyed 5.5 inch XT. I like the smaller size, seems more "right sized" for using on my dual sport. The 6-inch would have seemed huge. So far I never look down and wish I had more screen, just not an issue. Super fast processing, as compared to the XT. While I don't use the GPS to pair/operate my phone or other comms, when I get calls on my phone a notification does pop up on the screen, so that's nice. The XT3 also absolutely works with Basecamp (despite what Garmin says, and the popup in Basecamp). So interfaces just like every other Garmin device I've plugged into the computer. In fact it works better than my XT model did. Save tracks or waypoints to the unit and the next time it restarts it will let you designate which knew things you want to show, group them in a folder, name the folder. Pretty slick actually. As always, being able to plug a Garmin powered base directly into an open accessory connection is perfect. The XT3 wiring is also less bulky than the XT; doesn't have the little voltage regulator box and doesn't need a fuse when wired to an accessory connection.

I like the smaller size for trails!

Ron July 20, 2026

Riding BDR trails with my KTM 500 and I really like the smaller GPS. I also have the larger XT two but use it more for road riding and travel.

Lacking easy to use route builders

George IKMC August 19, 2026

The unit works as described. Has a very bright screen that is easy to see at all times night or day. Easy to navigate and use as while in route I needed to find gas stations. The only drawback that I find is the software that is used on the home computer when you are planning out route you need to use two programs. The first program is my Google Maps, then you have to save the route on the computer and open it up in another program called Explorer which automatically updates it to the cloud and to the unit. Garmin should come up with one easy to use program where you can make a route and send it to the Zumo.

Can't get Garmin Tread on a lap top?

OMAKTM July 27, 2026

I'm happy with the GPS, I'm not happy that I can't get Garmin Tread on my lap top! I have been using Basecamp making and organizing tracks and routes for twenty years and now I have to send them to Gaia to transfer them to Tread on my phone? Big disappointment!

The Zumo XT3 seems to work well, but learning how to import GPX files can be difficult. The import menu is buried behind waypoints. Then, trying to find the tracks menu to convert to a route is buried again. I thought this was a navigation device and not a social media device. Very little extras above an XT2 that require the upgrade to an XT3. No videos are showing you how to use the device and its integration with the Garmin apps. In my opinion, the only advantage the Garmin XT Device provides over cellular mapping products is the providing navigation where there is no Cellular connectivity.

Great When it Works; Unreliable without Cellular

h8venom September 17, 2026

I recently upgraded from a Zumo XT at the urging of Garmin when I started to experience some issues with my XT. I took the XT3 on a cross-country trip through the backcountry. Approximately three to four times when I was in the backcountry and without cell service, when stopped with the motorcycle off, the unit would power down as expected. When it came back on, my tracks that had been synced through tread prior to my trip were gone. Nothing. The unit said it was not connected to Tread when I clicked on saved despite showing the connection in the upper left of the screen and showing as connected on the Tread app. I went through various troubleshooting steps, but nothing worked until I was back in cell reception. It is completely unacceptable if the design of this unit is dependent on cell service. Thankfully, I had the tracks on Gaia on my phone as a backup or I would have been lost. I have spoken to Garmin support and gotten the usual restart, disconnect, reconnect, oh now it's working. They have yet to explain how this could happen. I am impressed by the unit when it works. Great resolution! Great responsiveness! This is the only reason for the two stars. I am hoping Garmin will eventually respond with some explanation/resolution.

Not the XT that I thought I was getting

BobW12 June 19, 2026

can't review what I do not have. It was sent back because of the lack of information about it not working with basecamp and the need for an app that really doesn't work either. I would recomment anyone looking to purchase the XT3 go elseware. I think Garmin has lost it's way.

Not the XT that I thought I was getting

bobrw June 11, 2026

nowhere in the online description did they indicate that this unit would not work with the basecamp application. Only after purchasing the unit and reading the instructions did I learn the flaw.
