Was looking for a nice looking, top freezer refrigerator with NO icemaker or any of those other gadgets, not smart controlled that would cause issues. After a lot of looking, decided on the GE. Very satisfied with looks and performance, AND made in the USA.
Freezer is quite large enough. The refrigerator part of it does not have the most convenient access because the freezer door obstructs ones view on the contents without having to stoop over to access the contents. No shelf reconfiguring available in refrigerator or in freezer.
Have had this refrigerator in my kitchen for 5 months now and it seems to be working fine. It makes more noises than my old GE that lasted 35 years but you get used to it. I had a side by side before so maybe it's me and my height (5'1") but when I dig to the back of the first shelf in the fridge I hit the back of my head on the freezer door when pulling out! I guess I start standing up too soon. Hopefully someone gets a chuckle out of that! Thinking back though I could have done with the similar model that has a smaller freezer and perhaps avoided this quirk. The freezer on this model is very roomy! I don't pack full the fridge or freezer and still the settings keep everything cold on less than mid-temp settings which I'm guessing saves energy. All in all I'm happy with my choice. The price was very affordable and it looks good too.
Comparing it to my 24 year old GE fridge it doesn't make the grade. The new one doesn't have a light in the freezer, the shelves dont slide out. The LED light in the fridge is weak, shelf placement is very limited, and it seems to run more then my old one.
The refrigerator is a nice size for an extra one but it is VERY loud. Not everyone keeps their extra fridge in the garage but maybe this one needs to be.
We got this fridge and within a few weeks it was not keeping the temperature in the fridge below 40 degrees. We had to get it exchanged - a major inconvenience. We've had the replacement fridge for about 85 days and have had issues twice with it. First with the vent getting covered by a package in the fridge and the temp rising to 50 degrees. We fixed that ourselves, but recently it has been making icicles and frost from the top of the freezer and had temps above 40 degrees in the fridge. We tried putting a piece of paper in the freezer & pulling it out - it slid right out with no resistance on the bottom edge. We have a repair person coming next week, and may need to replace the fridge again! Major pain in the neck. It also is pretty loud - running about 46-50 decibels. Shelving is a bit sparse so we end up having to pile things on top of each other and sit on the floor to organize things because it is very low to the floor.
Disappointed that the Freezer does not have a light. Can't place freezer items all the way to the back of the freezer in the lower shelf or vents will be covered. Difficulties of always having to bend down to get items from the refrigerator. Food items are hard to organized.
Works well however the shelves are recessed into the main compartment about 9". It is difficult to have to reach in so far every time you want to make a selection. It is hard on your back. Whomever is the engineer that designed this should be fires. p
We are VERY dissatisfied with the ice maker in our new refrigerator it is NOT even producing the low end of ice cubes and we have tried to deal with the dealer more house appliances in new Hartford New York and have gotten no satisfaction. We can't believe that we are getting this service with a GE appliance especially since GE used to employ many ppl in our area years ago!
just had this refrigerator installed on Saturday and the humming noise, or whatever it's called while it's running, is so LOUD! My God I can't believe I bought a refrigerator from somebody like GE that is doing this crap! everything I've looked at online says 24 to 48 hours for it to stabilize and then it should be fine, but still doing it almost constantly!
