[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I just installed it to replace my almost 9 year old Badger insinkerator. It's running much smoother than I thought and am used to. I still have to try it out on harder food waste.
Just replaced my old ge garbage disposal after 30years of service. Hope this on lasts as long
Simple install, done in 40 minutes. Replaced our 15 year old GE GFC720N Garbage Disposal with a new GE GFC720C cause it worked great, till it didn't.
THIS UNIT WAS VERY EASY TO INSTALL .FROM REMOVAL TO RUNNING IN ABOUT 30 MIN . I REALLY LIKE THE NEW GASKET FOR THE STAINLESS STEEL SINK . NO MESSY PLUMBERS PUTTY NEEDED. FLANGE WAS TIGHT BUT AFTER A LITTLE DISH SOAP WENT IN EASY . I'VE HAD A LOT OF GE APPLIANCES OVER THE YEARS .HOPE THIS ONE LASTS AS LONG AS THE OTHERS ..
I just finished installing what I believe will be a really great Strong disposal. It could use a few improvements in the installation area that would be a tremendous benefit. First, the dishwasher inlet port knock out plug is grossly under scored. It takes too muck force to knock the plug out as the instructions indicate. I used several "blunt" drifts finally relying on a 3/8 sucked extension after splintering two wooden dowel rods. When the extension finally breached the plug, I was rewarded with a badly bruised thumb. This plug, unless redesigned, should be drilled out and not knocked out. Second, I found the electrical connection box on the bottom of the unit has very limited access for the power cable. Two ports 180 degrees apart would help greatly. Thirdly, putting three cover back in place after making the electrical connections is way too difficult when you consider the bottom of most cabinets only gives you about 4 inches of clearance between the bottom of the unit and the cabinet floor. Also the nut that secures the round cover plate on the connection box cannot be tightened with either a nut driver or a thin wall socket. There is not enough clearance in the recess to allow the nut to be wrenched properly. You really should suggest in the instructions that the electrical connections be made with the unit upside down leaving a 3 or 4 ft length of cable as a pig tale for final connection at a close power access point. A final suggestion: the neck of the flange that passes through the sink bottom could be 2 inches shorter. This would provide adequate room for the assembly of all the mounting parts plus it would give much needed access area under the bottom of the unit to make the electrical connections. The time I spent for this installation that was a replacement of a broken disposal exceeded 6 hours. This included modifying the plumbing connections and major modifications to the electrical supply. A new installation would take less time. Having finally completed the installation, I am fully satisfied with the product and believe it will fully meet our expect ions.
This was a basic replacement, however the plastic body surrounding has a lot of play in it. This made it difficult to attach drain and then tighten to sink. It took multiple attempts to get it right. This was my first time doing a project like this so i am unsure if they are all like this.
The instruction manual is printed so small I missed a couple of important steps. I missed the wiring instruction section entirely. After installing the unit, I found the instructions after reading the manual for a third time. It would have been a lot easier to wire had I seen the instructions before installation.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was very skeptical about buying a general electric appliance as I am more familiar with different brands. I was impressed with how quiet it was compared to the old garbage disposal. however, when it came to installation, we use the adapter for the original flange for the old garbage disposal and the instructions for this was rather confusing. definitely make sure you have a BX cable if you're going to do direct line. this disposals designed mainly for four people based on the horsepower of the unit which is 3/4 horse power. Old unit had a wrench. in case of the motor was stuck that you could turn and unstick this model, you have to use a broom handle to turn the unit manually according to the instructions . Hopefully this will last my family for years to come. I had to give this three out of five due to the difficulty of installation, may I suggest some detailed installation videos on YouTube if there are any?
Brand new installation in a new home. Water leak drip from beneath the disposer and has ruined a brand new kitchen cabinet. 100% certain water is leaking from inside the disposer to the outside. I've previously used MANY GE disposers for decades with NO issues and no leaks. For the record, I'm a GE retiree. Very disappointed.
The mounting system requiring the disposer to be held in place while the locking collar is twisted was very difficult. I tried numerous time both by myself and with an assistant but could not get the locking collar started. I finally used a jack to hold the disposer in place while turning the locking collar. Then trying to turn the collar far enough to fully lock the disposer in place was very difficult, even with the suggested petroleum jelly. There was no good way to get enough leverage on the ring because the small tabs only stick out about an inch. Next time I'll buy another brand.
