GE 6,000-BTU Portable Air Conditioner, APCD06AXWW

Very nice little unit ! We bought it (ordered online) to cool a metal storage building (12 x 16) which holds some items that heat and humidity would ruin. The Eco mode is great allowing us to set an appropriate temperature and then forget it. We did buy one, and when it was delivered and set up, it didn't work - disappointed at that. We took it to a local WalMart store, returned it, and got a refund almost immediately. But, the features were so great, we decided to order another one just like it. Well, the second one works like a charm. Definitely recommend....

This air conditioner is called "portable." It has wheels, which supports that theory. But it also has a giant hose that must be attached to a window. So, it's portable in the same way a dog on a very short chain is "free." It can go anywhere, as long as it's right next to the window. It's a 3-in-1 machine, which is efficient. It cools, it fans, and it dehumidifies. Right now, I'm just using the "cool" setting, and my 250-square-foot room is now significantly less tropical. The "auto evaporation" feature is my favorite. It claims the water just... goes away. I choose to believe this. It's like a magic trick for humidity. It works. It's a bit loud, but it's the sound of victory over the sun.

Does, the job and it's quiet! This my second ge portable AC and both work great. It also is a bit more compact than other models. Made the mistake of ordering a cheaper competitor's portable AC and boy was I disappointed. It didn't cool properly and was so loud, I had to return it to the seller. Thank goodness, after returning the defective portable AC, I spotted this GE portable AC on sale at Walmart. I bought it ASAP and am so glad I did. I highly recommend this GE portable AC, it's great!

You have to drain water out of it on occasion. I have a different brand that does not require any water drains. Same type of AC. It's just getting warmer here in NY so I'm not sure how often it needs to be drained but that kind of a nuisance. Otherwise it's a nice unit.

The reason for 4 stars is due to the first one we bought didn't work. A word of advice, plug it in and make sure it works before installing it into the window. Customer service was very friendly and helpful.

It runs all the time. Cycles to check the temp and turns right back on even when it is 40 outside and cold in the house. I hate this thing. It is so noisy and inefficient. It is in an appropriate size room with proper installation. It's just a poor unit. We have had much better. Very disappointed!

The installation kit is lacking--really cheap hardware, wrong size screws. The unit is loud--noise leve is worse than regular window units it seems. The operation seems to be good--cool air, remote and controls work well. The price was very low and that covers a multitude of sins. Hopefully the unit holds up. So far so good.

They "easy to assemble" plastic tube does NOT just screw into the couplings. I had to force and squeeze the things onto it to get them connected. With the heat picking up, noticed big wet spots on my carpet near the unit. Luckily I used older towels to try and soak up the wet spots as it isn't just water/condensation. Nor is it leaking from the drainage nozzle. Whatever it is, it's a nasty brown color, which completely stained those towels.

Directions were incorrect on trying to fit some of the pieces. The exhaust hose pops out from air conditioner itself and the piece that should fit into the metal frame to install into window (and that plastic piece does not fit the metal frame) Do not purchase this. A few pieces of plastic on either end of the exhaust hose would have made a better fit with pieces that snapped together. Otherwise, the hose does not really fit and will eventually and quickly pop out from both sides. Total waste of money. The few minutes I have been able to run it: very noisy. It also gave off a foul odor. Maybe if I could run it long enough the smell would burn off.

Review of Brand New: GE 6,100 BTU (9,000 BTU Ashrae) Portable Air Conditioner Problem: Unit had probable compressor or electrical issues right out of the box. Effect: No cool air and left me sweating on hot days. Context: Ordered Online in advance of the beginning of hot season here and was very unhappy after installing to find the unit compressor did not cycle on. Went through all recommended steps of installation and GE unit FAQs to see if I could troubleshoot but could not get the compressor to turn on. Result: I'm 2 weeks into still trying to get it shipped back since for a refund or a unit exchange and see no end in sight. Customer Service representatives are Friendly, however ineffective. Caveat: I cannot physically bring the box back since it is at least 50lbs and out of my physical limitations which is why I had it delivered. Fellow shoppers: I will update this experience as it resolves.
