I bought this unit to replace one that still worked but was expensive to run now. Arrived quickly, well packaged. No damage noted to packaging or the unit itself. It is in perfect shape. Set it up briefly to test it out, it works great and is quiet!! Which is good as this in going in our bedroom. Remote works well. I have no issues at present, if any present in the future I will update this review. So far very pleased with this purchase, and highly recommend it! Great product for a great price!!
This is a cool air conditioner. It features energy-saving controls that allow you to set a desired temperature and it manages blower speed and compressor to efficiently reach and maintain that temperature. It cools very quickly. You can delay operation in advance so that it won't come on until your desired time. It is quiet and effective, and is made by GE so you can rely on it for the long haul.
I put this in the window of my guest room to push cold air into the living room/kitchen area to help my larger window unit. It blows really cold air and I love the price as well as the fact that it has a digital panel with a remote. But the same issue I saw someone else complain of has occurred for me. It developed an annoying motor hum within only a few days of operation and if I actually slept in the room, it would drive me nuts. It's not super loud, but loud enough to notice if you're in the room. And who knows, it could be a sign of something potentially really bad inside the case. I'm not an air conditioner expert, so I have no idea. The only reason I'm content to give it 5 stars is because it blows cold air and functions very well in that respect. Just know that you stand the risk of experiencing this same problem if you buy. If that's not a concern, then go for it. Can't really beat the price for a digital 6K unit. If I can get at least 3 years out of it, it was more than worth it.
Cools room and is quite. So far, so good.
it was great it felt like I was in a freezer wasted almost no energy too! I Recommend this, don't let me get started on how easy it was to assemble it and the buttons were easy to figure out and basically no noise depending on the type
We got this AC a few days ago and it is amazinnnggg! For those complaining of the rattle or loud noise etc. Did you wait at least 24hrs to install this after you received it? With AC as with any of these appliances, a lot movement happens during delivery and thus the compressor and the other parts are shaken. I read that we need to wait at LEAST 24 hours after delivery to even think about installing any appliance. I waited and BOY is this thing the best :-) and very quiet. Buy it...you will not regret I promise.
This air conditioner is well rated for a reason--it's very efficient! Also, the "Auto" control is a great feature, as the device operates itself. It was easy to install and has some improvements that I found helpful, in comparison to window units I've put in before, such as the side panels and the way in which they connect to the unit. It's quiet, has a remote, and, depending on your set-up, does not require all of the installation materials it came with--I had the old unit out and this one in and running within an hour. Great product, great price!
My two main concerns were that the unit cools sufficiently and that it's quiet. The a/c does a fine job of cooling the room and it runs very quietly. Very Happy about that. The only minor issues I had are that the units metal case was a little dented. It apparently had been dropped (but it didn't affect the performance). And because that part of the a/c is outside, it won't be noticed. The second issue was that it didn't include the screws needed to install it. I used the screws from the a/c unit that was being replaced. They worked fine. I did contact Walmart about both concerns and they were nice enough to offer me several options. I chose a 10% discount of the purchase price. I was happy with that. I am satisfied with this purchase.
When the ac is on, the air blows ice cold, but the problem is it gets sucked back into the unit and tricks the unit into thinking the room is already cold, so it turns off It will continue the cycle without actually cooling your room anywhere near the minimum 64 degrees which it shows, and will blow out air reaching 80+% humidity making the room uncomfortable. The water from the condenser pools up inside the outside part of the unit without a drain. The air direction adjustments do absolutely nothing left to right, and little up and down. I didn't notice any difference when using the energy saver function. This unit has tiny flaws, like the cheap air vents and flawed temperture control (and at the minimum temperature of 64 which never actually cooled my room below 68) which prevent an otherwise great unit from being useful. I couldn't deal with the mildly warm and humid room this AC made, so I returned it and got the HAIR 6000 BTU HWR06XCR-L which goes down to 61 and actually brings my room down to 61. The air vent controls work amazingly, and it wont increase my rooms humidity. While this GE air conditioner is decently quiet, it makes a jump/rattle whenever the compressor turns on and off, which I thought was normal, but the HAIR AC is quiet and smooth with no jumps (only as of day two of ownership though) Since both units cost the same price, I'd have to advise anyone to buy the HAIR any day over this one.
Worked well for a few weeks ... until the case started to accumulate condensation in the bottom. Stagnant water that had pooled in the chassis began to smell much like urine - both inside the house, but especially outside the window. Drilling a drainage hole isn't a great idea ... at least, not where I decided to drill it. It's difficult to image designing an AC unit with no way to purge condensation water, but that's exactly what this is... So... Not a bad AC unit if you live in El Paso or Phoenix, or if you don't mind the smell of urine and/or breeding mosquitoes in your window unit. Otherwise, I'd suggest a properly designed AC unit that addresses the possibility of condensation building up in the chassis.
