I thought I didn't like ice in my drinks until I installed this for my family. Now I'm obsessed with ice in my water and other drinks. This machine makes ice fast and rebounds quickly. My only complaint is it's a little loud so just be aware that if that bothers you then you might want to find a space for it more hidden. But the sound is constant and more like a fan. So it's not annoying. Just a moderately loud fan noise. But the quality of the ice is amazing.
I had a GE Opal and switched when it died to another brand and am back with the GE Opal an very happy with the machine. These countertop machines have a limited life and do require routine maintenance to keep them from squealing.
This ice machine is the BMW of in home ice makers. Fast and efficient and oh so quiet. When this one gives out we will be getting another one just like this one. I only have one small complaint. The on/off button isn’t easily visible. Maybe do a braille sign over where you can turn it on and or off. Great machine otherwise.
Had a different brand nugget ice maker for a few years and it suddenly stopped working recently. It was also really loud when you first turned it on. The Opal ice maker is so much nicer, faster, and prettier. It also has a separate filter you change out and has the app that goes with it. It’s not as heavy as the other one (which matters because I have to move mine closer to the sink to clean) and easier to clean. Yea it cost more but worth it. You get what you pay for. Chefs kiss.
We tried to save $$$ and first went with an ice nugget not an opal...off brand but it made a horrific screeching sound. Sent it back 2xs before asking for a refund. Put more $$$ to it and went with the opal 2 with side reservoir. More than we wanted to spend for sure. At the same time we're so happy with this machine! So quiet and efficient! Love, love, love it! We are happy campers!!!!!
My wife and I were a little thrown off by the price but decided to purchase it for Mother’s Day. I never realize we used so much ice. It takes about 20 mins to get started but once it gets going, it’s non stop. The ice is perfect for drinks, coffee, water or just to snack on. My kids will finally drink water (with ice), just to be able to crunch on the ice after they are done drinking it. My wife absolutely loves it and I would recommend to any buyer out there. I know it’s a lot of money, but it’s well worth it.
This machine makes good quality ice and quickly however we have had it for a week and it starts making this terrible noise. I did research and saw that most people have this use and GE has done nothing about it. Even the replacement machines that GE sends still make the same noise. This is absolutely ridiculous for such an expensive Ice machine to make such a terrible noise.
Such a disappointment! I was so excited to finally get this. My sister has one, and I love drinks so much more with the nugget ice. I had to return it immediately because it would never power on. I tried three different working power outlets in my kitchen and held the power button for 10 seconds, as suggested on the GE website. I called GE, and before they could help with the warranty, they would need photos, proof of purchase, a video showing that it would not power on, and showing that it was plugged in. Then I would need to call back to get the process started. It would need to be shipped back and received before I could get a new one. Too much of a hassle and waste of time, so I took it back to Walmart.
Doesn’t work very well. I only used distilled water. It’s been turning off randomly. Already had issues with the water filter clogging the flow of the machine giving me an “add water” error when everything is full.
The ice maker is extremely loud, to the point it sounds like something is broken.
