Great ice. I've had it now for a few week and am pleased. Set up was pretty easy. Just follow the directions and don't forget to set the switch on the back to ice after you have finished the rinse procedure. When it says you will have your first ice in 15 to 20 minutes that doesn't mean the ice container will be full, but once you have a full container of ice it does a pretty good job of maintaining the ice. We filled gallon ziplock bags to keep in the freezer for extra ice. Once you freeze the ice it loses that soft pellet ice texture but is still good pellet ice for drinks just not as easy to chew. I did not purchase the side tank. Unless we start using ice at a faster pace I doubt I will buy one. It's not much of a task to slide the ice container out to fill the ice maker with water.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Instructions were detailed and simple setup. So far it making ice and the ice is much better than any other ice maker that we have tested. I'm happy with these product and hopefully it will continue working as it is now.

I absolutely love this machine. The ice has the perfect size and crunch. Maintenance is very easy to do (videos are available on the GE website). I use filtered water to ensure the water deposits don't fill up so quickly. Definitely worth the investment.

I received this ice maker as a birthday present recently! I had been eyeing it for a while and my wonderful husband surprised me with it! I absolutely love it. PERFECT chewy ice!!! I don't know how I went so long without this! Hands down would buy again!

We have used this for a while now and it was the best thing ever! Then it started having blackish ice. I would do the cleaning cycle and it is bringing these little black things out. I have tried cleaning it 20 plus times a more black things are coming out. I'm too scared have my kids use the ice now. We have referred so many friends and family to get this ice maker.

The machine arrived smelling like mildew and had clear water marks on it (rusty spots, etc). Clearly this machine had been used before and then mailed to me. I ran the cleaning feature 3 times and little white flecks of paint or wax kept coming out of the machine and into the water reservoir. Once I started making the ice, the machine was making incredibly loud grinding noises for almost an hour. It was so loud we could hear it through closed doors. We called the GE Opal help line and had them listen to the sounds the machine was making and they told me it was not normal and that we had been sent a defective machine

It stopped working in less than 1 year. We loved this machine, kept it clean, used filtered water, but it no longer freezez or produces ice cubes. The light says its making ice, it has water, but the water just keep cycling through and wont freeze and make ice anymore. i reached out to GE and they responded with a generic trouble shooting email. i completed all the steps and sent back the information and they have not responded for weeks now. Nothing. even after i sent follow-up emails. im pretty frustrated. i spent hundreds of dollars on this. it was a huge purchase that i made so out family could have ice and the machine doesnt work and the manufacturer has ghosted me. I do NOT recommend the machine based on my experience.

Purchased less than 9 months ago. At first it was absolutely AMAZING! However, about a month ago it started making horrible noises and totally stopped working. it's still in the initial 1 year warranty as I've only had it 9 months. I've been getting the total run around from GE warranty. I'm praying they will do the right thing and send out a replacement but I'm not very hopeful on it ever arriving. They will not answer their help line number and will only email the same "descale your unit email" over and over no matter how many times I've explained the machine has literally stopped working.

Machine was broken, the water would run through but it would not make ice. Contacted seller about next steps but did not hear back. Product was returned.

It completely stopped working after 7 months. Can't get a hold of anyone from GE Support. Save your money, find another brand!
