We replaced a previous GE disposal (which was still working) with this larger/heavier duty one when we replaced our kitchen countertop and sink. It does an excellent job grinding waste in very short period of time. FYI - We don't put a lot through the disposal. It was a fairly easy install but we had to do some reconfiguration of water pipes since it was larger than our previous one.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Not being a plumber or electrician, this product was so simple to install. Had more problems taking the old one off than putting this one in. Also quite surprised on how quiet this disposal is when running. Very pleased with this purchase.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] bought this disposal, price was very good compared to other with similar features. easy to install only took me about 20-25 minutes to install. turned it on and tried it, it is quiet compared to the one I had that was only 1/3 HP. this one at 1/2HP . I am very pleased with this product.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We installed this garbage disposal in a kitchen remodel project. It is quiet and works great. Fairly easy to install. If you buy a garbage disposal/double drain plumbing kit, you'll have all you need to hook this up. (plus the GE plug/wire kit that is sold separately) Very pleased so far.
Install went easy except for one design/manufacturing flaw. the drain flange and bracket are too loose and it leaked intermittently until i put a nylon compression gasket on the flange backward to center it on the gasket. This kept it from popping partially thru and appearing as if there were an internal leak. Love the quiet operation and it looks great under the sink.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The cutters in the old disposer were quite dull and the whole cabinet would shake under load, so it was replaced with this model. I am a very experienced jack-of-all-trades type person, so didn't expect installation to be as challenging as it turned out to be. The existing piping from the previous leading brand disposer was not compatible with this one. In order to avoid renewing drain lines under the sink, I had to do some creative modifications. The supplied drain stub was incompatible with existing piping so I had to use the old stub, but the old flange wouldn't work on this disposer. The hole in the new flange was too big, so I had to cut a thrust washer to make it work. The distance from the sink flange to the outlet piping was also significantly different, so everything had to be reworked to get the proper alignment. Fortunately, I was able to re-sequence and modify the existing components without having to cut & glue or buy new, but I was very lucky. Recommendations: 1) If you switch brands, be prepared to replace a bunch of drain piping. 2) If you don't want to replace a bunch of piping, don't switch brands. The disposer seems to function well, now that it is installed. The first time I tried it, it was very noisy. After I loosened all the drain piping and carefully relieved it of any binding stress, however, it is acceptably quiet. The speed varies with load, and even a stream of water will slow it down noticably. Further loading with solid waste doesn't seem to slow it down much more than the water stream. Being new, the cutters are sharp and will effectively mince even things I wouldn't normally want to put down the disposer. I've had it installed for several weeks now and am satisfied with the performance.
Love how quiet it is; but not totally thrilled with the design. The opening from the sink basin to the chamber on the unit is rather narrow and the plastic insert very firm. I find I have to push the waste food through the hole with my hand. Makes me a bit nervous. But the space occupied by the unit under the sink is great; still allows for storage.
When my original disposal rusted out (after 20 ) yrs. I went on line to find a replacement. I like GE products and found this to be a great price and powerful to boot. Was not difficult for my husband to install, great instructions and did not take long to do. The fact that it is more powerful than my old one it was a little louder than I expected but after using a few times it did not seem so bad. Love it.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Not knowing how much longer I am going to own my current home(Empty Nester), I was looking for the least expensive disposer. I felt guilty buying the GE, as it is MADE IN CHINA, and the competitors disposals were made in USA. Easy to install. In my next home I will be buying AMERICAN MADE.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Bought this to replace old when that went toast. Unit did not come with a connector so you could fasten the power pigtail to unit. Had to go out and buy one. Install went in fairly normal till time came to connect the discharge pipe to system, walla, it was short by about 1 1/4". Another trip to store to get an extension. This is my 3rd replacement, and the first time I had to buy addition parts to install it. Will not buy a GE disposal again.
