When I installed my Ghost Controls dual gate opener this summer, I used the two battery system with the 10w solar panel. I live in the Pacific NorthWest (Southwest Washington) and sunny days are few and far between from about November-February. When the weather turned, I noticed that the batteries were running down and the gate would stop working once or twice a week on approximately 5-10 gate cycles per day, so I'd have to disconnect the batteries and put them on the battery charger. That got old quickly, especially in cold and rainy weather. I purchased the 30w solar panel and added it to the system in parallel with the 10w panel. It's been up for about two weeks now and not a single gate failure. Installation was quick and easy and took about 30 minutes total. I secured a 3" diameter ABS pipe to my fence posts and mounted the panel to the pipe with the included clamps. Works like a charm!!
I had a 10W panel and struggled to keep my battery charged and had to put it on a charger occasionally. Not any more. This 30W works better.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] works perfect and easy to install, perfecn fit for my area.
Love the Ghost Controls gate products. They work GREAT! And, this 30 watt solar panel keeps my Group 24/665 CCV RV Deep Cycle Battery charged up even in the depths of winter in NW Montana.
Works great and installation is straight forward, would highly recommend it
We didn't want to run electricity out to the gate. Perfect solution!
We felt that the smaller panel installed with our double gate system wasn't keeping up with the batteries so installed this larger panel to maximize the power supplied to the batteries. So far we have seen a much better level of maintenance to the batteries so did what we hoped!!
The panel looks good and seems to work as advertised. Would have been nice to get the mounting pole though. It wasn't clear that it was not included when I purchased, and I worked with someone live to build the order.
Why would you make the attachement so difficult to set? The screws are tiny and this the lip around the panel, its impossible de set it securely .
Failed after 3 years. Only has an 18 month warranty. Other solar panels are usually 5 yr. Too expensive for the price and warranty. Controller board only supports 40watt. So if you use the battery for other items and power with a larger array, you'll want to bypass the board's controller and get you're own controller and feed the battery directly.
