Glad is a superior product. The pinch and seal feature is great! Easy to seal and easy to open. I go thru 2 or 3 of these everyday which makes the 50 count box very convenient. Its a very rugged bag and can handle storage for many different items and it seals well for items that are liquid. will continue to use and buy this product.
I will start by saying I'm cheap. Usually I buy cheap storage bags. Or reusable containers. I was impressed by the difference between the less expensive bags and Glad. They seemed to hold a seal better. Especially when traveling, with movement. With it getting warmer, taking food more places. I definitely will be using the bags. Especially in places don't want to take containers. We all have that relative who doesn't return them.
GOOD SEAL ON IT AND GREAT SIZE. KEEPS EVERYTHING FRESH AND THE SEAL IS EASY TO CLOSE. CAN BE USED FOR OTHER ITEMS BESIDES FOOD AND KEEPS LEAKS OUT. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT BECAUSE IT IS ALSO VERY STURDY FOR A PLASTIC BAG. WONDERFUL PRODUCT AND I WILL ALWAYS USE IT.
These bags are an overall good buy, except for one minor flaw. When it comes to the positives, there are many. These bags are made of a thicker plastic than their leading competitor, the zipper is extremely easy to close and open, and it is easy to tell whether they are closed or not. They even hold up to heavy contents nicely without stretching. Overall, they are simply everything you could want in a zippered bag-- except that they tend to leak from the side at the spot where the zipper meets the body of the bag. Granted, it is always a small leak, and if the bag is placed upright without the full weight of the water on that exact spot it will not leak. However, I still believe that as consumer you should be informed about this possible flaw when buying them. Even so, I would absolutely recommend this product for any dry storage purposes, and even for wet storage as long as you are planning to store the bags placed upright (e.g., for marinading, saucing,etc.). As long as you are aware of the lack of total waterproofing, this is a good purchase that will come in handy in many kitchen situations.
When I ordered I thought they'd be larger. This are almost a sandwich size but a bit taller. They are actually tall enough to fit my sourdough sandwiches in. Also tacos fit in them! I use these bags for many things beside food, because they have such a great seal. Not sure if I would order them again, there are 50 in the box, so they will last quite a while, even used for other things. It's a good product, not one that I use a lot. I try to go with non-disposable items for storage, but these are very convenient for the in-betweens. And they will be used for other items beside food.
Glad is one of my favorite brands to order when I run out of storage bags, but I've never been crazy about the zipper version. I especially didn't appreciate it today, when one of the bags was hard to seal and it didn't keep its seal after I had filled it with water and pinched the zipper all the way to the end. It held for two minutes and then burst open, while I was lightly squeezing it in my hand, to check it for leaks. Fortunately for me, I was only using water and I was holding it over the sink. I often thought that liquid moved through plastic and that was why there was always a puddle of blood outside my sealed bag of thawed meat. That still may be true, but after my testing, I've come to the realization that it also leaked out of the bag through tiny holes. If it were not for the water, I wouldn't have known that the holes were there. I tested three bags, pulling one from the top, one from the middle, and one toward the bottom of the box. I filled each one with water, sealed them up and used varying degrees of finger pressure against the bags. It only took a light squeeze for the first two bags, before light streams of water were shooting out one side. In one bag, the leak occurred where the seal and the seam met. All three leaked out liquid in the side seams. The third bag stood the test for light pressure, but when I firmly squeezed the bag, a slow drop of water appeared, about an inch from the top of the bag. I had been using these to carry cat urine and/or feces to the vet. I see now, that I can't depend on Glad for that purpose. However, despite the fact that all three bags failed the "airtight" test, it doesn't make this a worthless product. Before I discovered that the bags were not airtight, I was using them to hold boxes of opened baking soda or dry mix. Sometimes I used them to organize my dry mixes like soup, gravy and fajita seasoning packets. In the past I've really appreciated them for lunch meat, cheese, and hot dogs, because some of these items don't come in a sealed package or the seal it comes with, is too hard and frustrating to open. I usually cut that off completely, drain out the liquid and put it in one of these Glad bags. My favorite purpose though, is for holding a pound of ground beef and storing them in the freezer. It's a pleasure to have ingredients pre-measured and stored away for a future meal. I love the convenience! I will continue to use them for this purpose, even with the tiny holes, because I've learned to always put the frozen package in a bowl to catch the blood. As for description, when a bag is unsealed, one side has a ¼ inch yellow strip and the other side has a ¼ inch blue strip. When you've made a seal by snapping these two together, the strip becomes green. My experience with Glad bags has not changed my opinion about not liking the zipper. I found that the zippers were not easy to seal, if food or even water gets in there. What I do like about the bags is that they are transparent, with the exception of those three colors on top. It also fits inside my drawer where I keep the plastic wrap and aluminum foil. The box is 7 and ¾ inches L x 3 inches W and 3 ¼ inches tall. The storage area of one bag measures 7 and 5/8 inches long from top to bottom and 7 inches side to side. Each bag will hold two pounds and twelve ounces of water. There is no built-in white label to write on. That was a disappointment. The texture of an individual bag feels strong, like there's a little thickness to it. It doesn't stretch or make a hole when I try to pull it apart, but it did puncture with my finger, and I have very short and flat nails. Also, when a sealed Glad storage bag of water is thrown against the deck outside, it breaks apart. Overall, it does bother me that the company makes this claim of an airtight seal, when there is evidence to the contrary, but these bags won't go to waste at my house.
