I have charge the my Sherpa 100 several times in the last week, it made short work on charging it. i have been waiting for the Yeti 1400 to get back in stock. Curious how the Boulder 100 charges it, pretty sure i will have order another Boulder 100 for increase time efficiency.
We recently purchased 2 Boulder 100 solar panels as part of our "preparedness" efforts, but used them this past week as we camped for 5 days. They easily charged our Yeti 400, our Sherpa 100 Power Pack, Lighthouse 400 lantern, our son's Sherpa, plus several smart phones. We are thrilled with all of them.
used it 2x. live it. 3 things I'd change is the clips holding it together are too petite. I'd change the fold design to follow the other way to protect the solar cell from contact and a padded case. maybe change the 8mm cord. I use it on my yeti 400.
It has taken a beating from me, my kids hitting it, it falling because the legs weren't put all the way out, being stepped on by dogs and kids, and being dropped at 3 feet. They are very durable, I must say and I'm great at product testing because of all the variables I have to put it through, but not paid for it though. I even showed these to another solar company and an employee was impressed by them.
I have been using both the Sherpa 100 and Yeti 150 for a couple of years now. When using solar to charge them I was using Nomad 20s, which have done a good job. This year I am "experimenting", if you will, with keeping my iPhones and iPads charged only with solar power. I want to see how viable solar is for this purpose. The Nomad 20s were doing a good job, but given our at time sporadic sun here in Michigan I wanted to try a little more horsepower. The Boulder 50 is living up to Goal Zero's claims / my expectations. As with all Goal Zero products I love the "plug and play" aspect of the design. When this puppy arrived I unpacked from the well protected boxing and placed in the yard to put it to work. I've never had the Sherpa 100 charge so fast on solar. I was certainly happy with the purchase. I now rotate the two power supplies, to give them "equal time" and the Boulder 50 just keeps them happy. Even when down for a couple of days, due to rain, the chargers are brought back to life in short order. I am very happy with the purchase and highly recommend the solar panel.
Seems to be well-made and performed as expected under limited usage so far. This unit charged my YETI 1400 approx. 35% after 10 hours under a FL summer sun. I faced the panel to the east during the am hours, west during the pm & flat when the sun was overhead. A small quibble is the cable connecting both sides of the panel could be pinched if not careful when folding, unfolding or otherwise manipulating the briefcase.
I have had the Boulder 100 for about a month. I use it to charge a Yeti 400. Very well constructed. My only complaint would be that when folded up, the cells are on the outside rather than inside. The supplied case is nice, but would not prevent damage if it took a sharp strike
Actual data plot below shows peak of 70 watts charge at noon 50 miles north of Chicago in February! Enlarge it and read the details of plot; 355 watt-hours of charge in about 6 hours and the angle to sun was not optimal and no tracking. Shadows set in at about 4 pm. I am very pleased with this performance through 60 feet of joined cable. Now, if GZ will just assure me that the Nomad 100 will perform as well and lower its dear cost by 100- 150 dollars, I'll purchase one of those as a compliment to the boulder bc.
Very heavy. Bulky. Hard to find an appropriate storage location. Will not recharge in the shade; must charge with full sun exposure and/or thru the clouds (but will NOT charge in the shade). Very, VERY expensive; but the wife wanted it in light of the recent hurricanes.
Bought this to speed-charge my new Yeti 1400. From the top: Price is too high (vs. Renogy's $400 200w panels) - MINUS 1 star. 12AWG cable from the back of the panel is only 6ft. long -- way too short that makes connection to power-stations EXTREMELY prohibitive (can't take power station inside). MINUS 1 star. Highest charging througput I can get is 144watts, was expecting at least 160-170w. MINUS 1 star. 'love the foldable legs design. PLUS 1 star... but it LIMITS tripod mounting. MINUS half a star. Overall rating 3.5 stars.
