This rain barrel is beyond what we expected. It filled up once and we have no problem with the valves. It looks so nice. We reconfigured the downspout with a pvc reducer and siliconed a piece of screen into it to allow the flow to go directly into the barrel instead of just the screen at the top. It allows us to pull it out to clean it. We were so happy to see a drain hole for the plant area at the top. We could not be happier!
I love this rain barrel. I wanted a larger capacity for my backyard. This 90 gallon unit is awesome. I built a platform for it out of wall blocks to make it easy to use the bottom faucet. I can't wait for the next rainfall. It also looks great with the textured sides.
So far these are really great, holds more and looks much better than a 50 gal. drum. I don't know that I would plant in the top if you're direct routing a downspout to it (which is what I did) heavy downpours would more than likely wash the dirt out, might be ok with a diverter. I plan to put water plants in mine and throw a mosquito dunk in them. Also plan to have some type of water diverter at the base of the barrel to keep runoff from eroding the soil. I found out the hard way, had it all perfectly leveled on concrete blocks and all the excess water that the barrel couldn't keep up with eroded under the blocks and I had to drain the barrel (which took the most time) and do it all over again! (luckily I had extra garbage cans I don't use so I didn't have to waste any of the precious water :) I used a grooved piece of vinyl siding I had laying around so it could be "tucked" under base of the main barrel. It works for now until I can figure out something more aesthetic to use. You may also want to remove the debris screen and cut the opening bigger to allow for more water to get in then reinstall the screen. As soon as I know the main barrel is no longer going to shift, I'm going to make some type of screen to cover the ugly blocks.
We love this rain barrel with handy two spigots. It is a good value for 90 gallons. The only problem is the top—meant to be a planter—doesn't completely drain since the drain hole is not quite at the bottom of the planter.
Did not come with lower spigot. Only the one half way up the barrel
Largest rain saver and textured sides very nice. Color, however not as pictured--much lighter. It still looks ok so not returning. Would like it if lid came off for maintenance or cleaning.
This barrel is smaller than I thought and smaller than ones I have gotten in the past from Sam's club in store and the water flow is definitely slower. Otherwise it works well.
Pros: Large capacity and does not deform in the heat. Brass hose fittings are high quality. Cons: A lot of teflon tape was needed to keep fittings from leaking and there is no drainage for the top planter.
I don't like the way the top does not drain the water. Its a brewing ground for mosquitoes
I love the look and the fact it holds 90 gallons of water, but I can't get enough pressure when I hook up the hose which is why I bought this rain barrel.
