Large Water Saver

bell March 16, 2017

I bought 5 of these to add to the back of our house and my husbands workshop. My husband was driving me crazy placing buckets all along the roof line to collect water. These rain barrels are much more attractive and have been full almost all the time for his watering pleasure. He is a full time gardener. The planter in the top is not deep enough and the barrel filling with water overflows into the planter. I placed gravel in it to sit a pot on top of which is much better. I love the barrels.

Great capacity, good looking design.

I bought 2 of these barrels which totals 130 gallons and with my 3 existing I captured 295 gallons plus 10 5 gallon buckets from this last rain. The first 3 barrels I bought before a rebate program was in effect, but these two were free after the state rebate. Please bring these or similar barrels back in stock. The barrels are super well made at a great Sam's price. The only negative is that after the barrels drain as much as they will, there is still 10 gallons of water in the barrel which can only be recovered by tipping the barrel. Maybe I will install a new drain in the bottom It has been two weeks since we used house water to flush our toilets and water the plants under the overhangs which get no rain.

love the barrels....

65 gals! 2 hose bibs, one about half down and one almost to the bottom.... May have about 3" left.... not a big deal. our first rain with the barrels, 1 filled completely and the other little over half..... ah, we live in Southern California..... have been using on plants after repotting them and cover with a heavy layer of mulch...... all in all...... when I get the other 3 sides of house completed, (we are repairs and paint) then we'll get a couple more...... oh, there is one ding..... we got 2 barrels and also a super saver toilet for the guest house..... found out yesterday, the water company rebates all gone! bummer....

BIG

LouisianaLover April 16, 2017

you need to make a paverstone base for this unit before you install it. it holds so much water that it gets really heavy and will sink into the soil or slide crookedly if you do not build the base for it... unless of course you already have a hard solid surface like concrete to place it on.

Willow Rain Barrel

KLDBT April 13, 2015

The best looking, sturdiest, & largest barrel we've seen in our price range. We could only purchase the one @ the time but was able to put in an order for another. These sure beat the garbage cans and plastic tub we've been using. Whoever thought of having 2 spigots on it I could kiss! I've been using my 2gal watering cans to scoop out the water from my other containers and lugging them all over the property to water my plants. The planter on top is a great bonus, but I'm having a hard time deciding on what plants to plant LOL. Thanks Sam's for the great deal just at the right time ????!

Great Quality, Poor Design, Needs Improvement

bfreemanster April 17, 2016

Just bought one of these. Set it up in the back yard. 3/4 inch of rain on one day was enough to fill to capacity. Love it. Here's what's wrong though. - No way to access the last 10 gallons of water in the bottom of the barrel (needs a lower drain). - Once it's full, what happens? The "forward" drain system is a joke. Overflow water trickles down the front of the barrel and is not a safe distance from your house's foundation. Without some modification or a gutter diverter, this can lead to real problems. Barrel should have a gutter-sized spout from the top front. Owner could connect a standard size downspout to come off the front top aspect of the barrel. This would provide a real drainage solution over the poorly conceptualized idea from the manufacturer. I like this rain barrel but be prepared to make modifications of some type to protect your foundation. As is, the overflow issue is not solved. I plan on modifying as I described. May even get a couple more of them and connect in tandem. Great way to get free water for the flowerbeds. For reviewers who think this product is amazing, you need to read up about water drainage and your foundation. A little knowledge can save you many thousands of future dollars.

Great Product Bad design

Slau April 29, 2015

This is what I wanted the collection is great and it does what is stated. The issues that I have is that in the back the (now I know) overflow holes that I thought were some type of moving handle holes that didn't come with the unit were for water overflow. This is the worst thing I can think of, as it allows tones of water to overflow next to your foundation. Very little water was coming out of the front of the unit but out of the back creating a pool of water where I didn't want it. Now I'll need to putty the two holes in the back so that the water will flow out of the front. The other issue is that if you put a water hose to the units sockets very little comes out unless you can adapt a water pump to it for watering flowers, but as long as you have a bucket it works just fine. I would recommend this product but only gave it two stars due to it's poor design.

Water Everywhere

Nette3815 April 11, 2015

I had 3 Rain Barrels before I purchase these 2. I'm VERY disappointed in how these performed at each rainfall. The first time it rained, water was all around both barrels from the overflow holes in the back and the overflow in the front. I checked the gutters, fitting, cement blocks to make sure no adjustments were necessary. Everything was fine. After the rain last night, I was sick to my stomach to see all the water just pouring out of these holes. The difference between these 2 and the other 3 is these don't have the overflow TUBING coming off the back or sides like the others. This allows the water to just flow out the front and back and puddle around it. I'm trying to paint a picture for anyone else interested. I love the style and look, but to ME the functionality is not there. I will be returning these for a refund. I love Sam's Club items! This item did not work for me.

Absolute junk

BCKT July 2, 2016

Loved the look of this rain barrel - purchased it 2 weeks ago and looked forward to the first rainfall. It seems sturdy, and has attractive brass spigots. Why it's junk: the rain catch area is tiny - most of the rain flows straight off the screen, into the overflow area, and onto the ground. What little rain it does catch can't be had easily. With the spigot fully open, it took 7 minutes to fill a 2-gallon watering can. Returning it today - don't waste your money.
