This tester has no batteries. I am not happy about the small dial face. Somewhat hard to read. Seems to be accurate. I will test it against an Infarred temp gun. I have to check that.

Reliable and adjustable to ensure accuracy. A staple in the kitchen. Sometimes though, change for sake of change is annoying. The older design from a few years ago was much more easily readable while cooking. This one is less so.

Wasn't very accurate for very long. No luck even after trying the recalibration instructions. The meat was getting overdone and taking a long time when i realized it wasn't reading the temp correctly.

doesn't work for cold temperatures
I've been dealing with some tendonitis, so I soak my feet in ice water in a homer bucket. I wanted to measure the temperature. I don't know how cold the water actually is (which is why I bought a thermometer), but this doesn't show it being nearly as cold as I think it is. I start it out in cold tap water, but as I add ice, the display needle doesn't move to show it getting colder. I have no idea if this is good for cooking and hot temperatures, but not useful for cold.

does not work
the temperature doesn't go above 140. I had chicken fillets in the oven that were supposed to be done in 45 minutes I checked the temperature it was at 140 put in for another 10 minutes still at 140 cook for another half hour the chicken was dried out and it never went above 140
