No batteries means nothing to replace. it is a thick thermometer, so i dont feel like its going to easily break (but it IS glass). The display is clear and the digits are easy to tell what temperature my wax is. Theres also a metal clip to clamp on the side of the pot and a plastic storage sleeve to keep it neatly stored away. candy making, baking, etc...its a great, badic thermometer - NO FUSS
Bought it specifically to test temperatures of milk as I process my own togurt. Does the job well, as I didn't want to trust the recommendation to use a slow cooker and rely on the cooker's controlled temperatures without the assurance of measuring the temperature for accuracy. Succes with making yogurt depends mainly on maintaining specific temps.
This is a nice little purse, just the right size but hold a lot of stuff. I am enjoying mine it is made nice and comfortable to wear , the strap does not fall off your shoulder
Had a thermometer like this for YEARS and sadly broke it. I was so happy to find out I could get another one. I will definitely be more careful with this one!
I really like that this candy and deep fryer thermometer has a case. In the past I have just thrown them in a utensil drawer and then was disappointed later when they were broken and stopped working. The case also has the candy and fryer temperatures listed on the outside as a reference. It measures in Fahrenheit and Celsius. And another great feature is the lever that you can use to open the clip. A nice feature when trying to place this on a hot saucepan. It really helps limit the risk of burns.
The temperatures are off just enough to make a slight difference in the candy. Of course I always double check with cup and water. Next time I used 2 thermometers plus old way of checking and the verdict is….its off if using for candy.
Initially, upon opening the package, I was pretty impressed - large and seemed sturdy. When it came to baking day, I put my ingredients into my pot for my caramel recipe and adjusted the thermometer so that it wasn't touching the bottom of my pot. All is great. Until the clasps covered the temp range that I needed to be in so I couldn't see it. Ended up not using it at all, but I am sure at some point, it might be needed. Wouldn't buy if I was looking for a candy thermo.
It seemed to measure temperature OK... However, it is not sealed and the removable cap can allow moisture inside which makes trying to read the temperature difficult. Why this wasn't sealed (like the one my mother and grandmother used to have) baffles me. The website won't allow me to add photos but think of trying to read a thermometer on the other side of a fogged up shower glass.
Candy thermometer tends to steam up inside and makes it difficult to see the temperature. I have to stand 3 ft away from the stove to be able to read the temperature.
I tried to give it a five star review and it refused to accept The five stars. I like the thermometer it works. It's convenient. It's easy to read.
