Do NOT turn the handle backwards, unless you intend to dismantle the can opener for cleaning. I made that mistake, the handle unscrewed, and parts went flying all over the kitchen. Luckily, I found everything and put it back together. But for cleaning, the ease of dismantling could be a plus; though I consider it a design flaw. To easily unscrew the handle, grip a paper towel in the can opener mechanism, and turn the handle backwards, it will come apart easily. Just take note of what goes where, because it was a slight challenge to line everything (bushing, washer, gears, spring) back up.

Wow. For a manual can opener, this particular one works great. I have gone through several manual can openers because they fail within months of purchasing. This one is well-made, has good handles for an easier grip, is gear driven for smoother, easier operation. I like it.

So in my day, can openers lasted a life time. Now they barely make it to 3 months. What gives? I know we are supposed to be in a buying cycle but there is nothing more frustrating than a can opener that dies just when you need it most...a small piece of metal that actually cuts...can't they be made stronger. But unfortunately they are not better when you spend more so that is why I gave this a good value rating. For the money it does what it does...I am not happy but glad I did not spend any more big numbers to find they are no better either. So I think it is a value if junk is what you want in the draw. A shame, because I have bought in the past and seemed to have had it longer.

This is the 2nd time I've purchased this can opener, only so I could make sure I have a spare! It works incredibly well for such a low cost. I highly recommend this can opener. It's as smooth as silk with how easily it turns. Don't spend less to save a few bucks. I did, and regretted it. This is the one!

This can opener works very well. It cuts well into the lid of the can and the handle is very easy to turn. I hope it last, but for now it works very well and I have arthritis but It is still very easy to use.

Lightweight yet sturdy. Handle turns and cuts the metal cans very smoothly. Handles are comfortable to hold.

Trusted brand is worth the penny's more. Metal shaft will not break with daily use or large cans. A drop of olive oil after washing will keep it working smoothly, no build up of debris.

I have literally never used a manual can opener that was of this poor quality until I purchased this horrible one! I am so disappointed with this thing!

Teeth on cog so dull it will not get traction. Bloodied a knuckle on the jagged metal testing it out. Seller should be ashamed. Will be returning immediately.

I know electric can openers don't last long before wearing out. but I expected a manual can opener to last at least a year. this one didn't.
