I own 2 nest minis and an insignia smart home that also runs on Google. I love the convince of being able to control my life hands-free. I use Google to dim my lights when I sit down to watch a movie, play newest episodes of my favorite podcasts while I'm in my office, and to answer questions to settle disagreements. All in all it's a great little addition with a big impact in your life.P.s. if you have smart lights try out "hey Google make it spooky"
I know this device gets down played because it doesn't have a screen or the audio isn't top tier audio (I personally can not tell that), but this device works well. Very well. It controls everything that I have in my google home. The audio is great for sharing music with everyone in the room. It picks up everything that I say and usually does not trigger randomly.
Sometimes hears me, most of the time correctly. It gets confused/does not complete 'complex' requests such as 'turn on kitchen and living room light'. Sometimes I think I speak to quickly...? Today I asked for 'common birdsong of WA state' and it gave me a Grateful Dead song called ...Birdsong... then tried to get me to buy YouTube Premium... Nope. Overall great for simple tasks.
I really only got this to have one speaker downstairs so we could broadcast to each other if needed. Other than that I much prefer the Google nest speaker. As that plays music which is what I bought it for. I also have the Google nest hub second generation and the Lenovo alarm clock. Now that they are all together though sometimes they don't all work. When I talk to them one might do what I say and another one says something went wrong. It's also hard to get the speaker group to play all together. I have tried to do what they said in the help section as far as making them all in sync. But it just doesn't really work with my surround sounds. For some reason that one seems to be delayed. That's the one that's hooked up to my Chromecast.
I have always used Alexa in the past and I will say to it, "Alexa, remind me to fold the rye dough in 40 minutes." In 40 minutes, she says....I'm reminding you to fold the rye dough. I have a lot of doughs going at one time so I tell her specifically what dough needs what. With the Google Mini, I say, "Hey Google, remind me to fold the dough in 40 minutes" and he says....You have a reminder. I NEED MORE THAN THAT. I may have 20 bowls of dough going. It just doesn't do what I need it to do.
these are cheap for a reason. main purpose is for google to make money off you. they're generally useful, but often frustrating. adjusting sensitivity lower to get a device in a different room to stop responding means that to get each device to respond i have to yell at it or put my face up against it. the former resulting in the same problem. broadcast has an extremely annoying echo effect causing an inability to understand the message
Mine was a Christmas present, though I don't have my phone on me all the time, to use google. It's easier to just yell "Hey Google" and get the information I need. I use it for my Music App and to get weather for my area. IF it wasn't for the bad soldering weld on the mic switch, that keeps telling me mic on/mic off/mic on at 3am when it decided to do it. I would probably still be using it...
Works as expected when connected to the network. However it disconnects from the network every 2 to 4 days. A different error message every time. I have to completely reset it. Then it's good to go for another few days. Seems to disconnect around two or three in the morning. Everything else on my networks stays connected.
Honestly I've always loved Google home and home Mini, but as of recently it never understands what I ask. I say hey Google and it pauses but before I can get my request in, it continues ignoring me. I've tried resetting and swapping out, it's hit or miss lately, not sure if there is a software update coming soon.
never received, received thermostat instead...
