This remote has extremely long battery life and compared to the previous version. I bought this remote on 08/09/2021, it is now 12/02/2021 I still have not had to charged it(34%still remaining). It is also convenient that you are able to rotate the orientation of the display I have not encountered any problems with it yet such as the screen freezing up or that sort of stuff. If you have the hero eight or max cameras I would recommend this remote over the other one because it has a better battery life and improved features.
When I am going on a bike ride I just mount it to my top tube, and it connects super easy and you can even turn on and off the camera from it as well as changing camera modes and presets with the click of a button. The only reason I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is once it glitched out and I had to turn it off and back on which stopped the GoPro mid run. But still a great durable product with an amazing battery life I have had it for about a year and I haven't had to charge it once!
I used this remote with a Hero 11 , Hero 11 Mini and a Max 2. Its been consistent and reliable until my last use. While charging it overheated, the battery expanded and the remote burst open leaking some sort of sealant around the charge port. Does not work underwater.
The remote is really convenient and when it works, it is a must-have. I've have very minor connection issues outside of water, nothing that isn't more than a minor inconvenience. Overall, I love having this thing. That said, the strap is not comfortable or overly useful. It slides around only until you cut off circulation. Also, it won't stay connected underwater. I'm not sure what the issue is, but mine loses connection as soon as I submerge. The screen is also really hard to see when outside, either in sun or not. The battery is incredible and I can do multiple trips without charging. I'd be fine with less battery life for a more easily visible screen.
Design and controls are pretty good other than the sketchy USB cover which is serious design flaw. The flex part will rot away after a few sessions. I used it once in the surf and the connector was corroded the same afternoon I used it Also The Remote seems to freeze while connected (not going into reconnect mode) and does not reflect what is on the device. Of course it doesn't work when wet and will go into infinite reconnect. The excess wireless chatter is probably not good for GoPro battery life. Innovative interface but no consideration for function & robustness.
Doesn't work well for me with two cameras, seems to always have trouble connecting, and the strap is a joke. Clearly no one at GoPro had mounting options in mind when they designed this remote, because there is zero flexibility for mounting unless you have a perfectly aligned location for the strap. For example, motorcycle handlebars. Good luck with that! I would be great if some kind of clip was designed that allowed the remote to be used with other available device mounts instead of assuming the orientation of the remote will ALWAYS be the same by every single user who has purchased it. Fire the remote design team. Please.
I have 2 GP Hero 9's. I use them to make fishing videos. Ever since I got this remote it has never worked properly. I did all of the troubleshooting, downloaded the software update from GP website, everything. deleted and reinstalled, all that IT stuff that the website walks you through. It will connect to both cameras for about 5 minutes then drop one. Then I have to turn everything off and turn everything back on and same thing happens again. I'm not sure if it because I have older GP9 model cameras but it should work. I know the new GP13 has a better Bluetooth connection but I would need to buy two new cameras. I'm very disappointed as it has ruined 2 of my fishing trips already. I really wanted it to work. Now I'm having trouble even getting in contact with the support team. Its been a headache. Please help GoPro!
Sucks-does not work reliably for multicam or even single camera, waste of money. Second time go pro has gotten me with a remote.
The usb port corroded after a few uses. I did rinse it thoroughly after each use. Now remote won't charge at all. For the price not worth it.
I have a GoPro 11 attached via a magnetic mount to my front bumper. If I walk around and stand next next to the camera it connects easily. I think walk back and stick it on the dash. It then sometimes stays connected and sometimes not...... This is about 6-7 feet distance....... Admittedly there is some metal in the way but this seems like a very standard use case.....
