As a certified Cheese-a-holic, my mom certified me via long distance call from Seoul Korea in 1985…(RIP Mom), I can give Great Value Colby Jack cheese my highest honor…I prioritize buying it on a regular basis. I use it sliced, dipped in cottage cheese as a snack/reward for a job well done. Along with using it shredded with Mild Cheddar as a topping for Tacos, salads, potatoes, broccoli and other steamed vegetables… love it!!!
It came in its typical packaging, though after opening, it's best to square away in Tupperware for extended use. The test is sharp, but not in an overpowering way and tender enough to cut without cutting improperly. It should come with a warning label, though as the taste will have you going through half the product before you realize what you're doing. Definitely a great buy.
My Stusgo Mixing Bowls came with Grater Attachments. I put the bowl with a greater lid on my lap, watching TV. I didn't grate my fingers. There was no mess! The cheese was easily put into all kinds of cooking creations! Tastes great. Just need to buy more than one at a time.
Cheese is hard to make - from maintaining pastures all the way to milking the cows, to finally making cheese. This cheese'll do. Grateful to have pre-made cheese. This cheese is very cheap but It tastes good and melts nicely. Makes great grilled cheese sandwiches.
Block cheese is the best way to buy cheese! If you want tons of craptacular additives which shredded cheese must have then skip this review and go enjoy being constipated..This cheese is flavorful, not like Carolina reaper or pepper jack, its sharp and melts well.
I get this due to the fact I need to cut down on certain elements in my diet--and I LOVE Extra Sharp Cheddar, which has to be reduced. It sort of complies with my desire for cheddar and Mozzarella but also reduces things I need to cut out of my diet. The taste is okay once you get over the concept of wanting that bite you get with cheddar and the Monterey Jack has the stretch quality that Mozzarella does. When heated both meld into a satisfactory substitution. I have had no reduction in calcium content of my regular blood tests so I must be doing something right. There is a slight drawback in cutting slices since the texture of the cheeses is more flexible than the other two cheeses I prefer. The blocks kind of wriggle when you are trying to slice them causing slices to be sort of ragged and uneven. This type of cheese is much harder to "shred" and I discovered that my old hand crank grater/slicer "objects" to the chore, but it is eventually manageable if you try hard enough. However, I have read that by "partially freezing the block it can be done easily. That is just something I have not attempted. I prefer to not leave the cheese in the freezer most of the time since I use it sporadically in various manners and different types of dishes.
We buy block for a better quality cheese to shred at home - lately the quality has not been the same - cheese is crumbling and after shredding, becomes compacted and dry. It never did this before. I can buy sharp, and this dryness does not effect the quality like the Colby does.
I used to order this cheese all the time. Don't get me wrong, it's tasty. However, the price just keeps going up and up. I can buy the generic brand cheese at other retailers for much cheaper. And sometimes I can get deals on name brand cheese during sales that beat this price per ounce. This product just isn't a value for money anymore and has been removed from my weekly shopping list. Hope to see some rollbacks on this product soon.
I've used this for years now and today when I opened it it crumbled like crumbled cheese. Super greasy the taste was horrible. I'm disabled and have it delivered so I'm stuck with it. I hate wasting food, but this one's going in the garbage. The quality is so inconsistent Walmart it's your brand please do better.
My Colby Jack great value cheese did not arrive. Don't know how it got to be missing, but I have looked everywhere and it is not in any of the bags. It must've fallen out somewhere because I do not have it. I really wanted that cheese, so I am quite disappointed.
