To more easily separate the slices. Instead of using your fingers to try and separate the slices (even though there’s paper between each slice to varying degrees), I used a metal spoon upside down to slip in from the side between each slice. This works great, the metal slides easily on the cheese because the cheese is slightly wet naturally. Don’t try to rush it, they will separate in whole. Try it out for yourself. Now, the cheese review: It’s good, the Pepper Jack flavor is tasty and consistent. I’ll buy it again and again.
Walmart has the best price on cheese. I only buy great value cheese. I used to be a cheese snob and only buy big name brands but ever since I tried great value I’m hooked. The price is amazing and they taste just like big name brands so it’s a win for me. We especially love the pepper jack, provolone, and cheddar. We buy them often so grilled cheese and sandwiches.
The taste balances creamy Monterey Jack with just the right kick of jalapeño peppers, giving a pleasant heat without overpowering your meal. It has a smooth, creamy texture that melts nicely, making it ideal for both hot dishes and cold sandwiches. For the cost, it represents excellent value, typically priced well below name brands while still offering about 100 calories and 7 grams of protein per 1 oz serving, which is great for everyday use. This cheese works wonderfully sliced thick on sandwiches or burgers, or shredded into omelets, quesadillas, and breakfast scrambles, where it adds both richness and spice. Overall, it is a high-quality, versatile choice if you want good flavor, creamy texture, and a good price in a convenient 8 oz block.
Simple cheese, but good cheese. I put this and the cheddar in just about anything that calls for it. Idk if its necessarily *real* cheese, BUT it DOES melt in melts and the like. Just not good for cheese sauces, but really any sliced cheese has things added to keep it's shape. All in all, would recommend.
I got these to put inside my Chile rellenos. Perfection! The poblanos was the problem, though, with the searing and the steaming and the peeling. What a mess! And then the batter and the dipping and the frying and the oil temperature which can't be too hot or too cold and then the beans—do you soak overnight or use the boil-then-soak method?—and then Mona thinks her rice recipe is better because her gramma made it before their family ever moved here but you know you have the best recipe but you let Mona bring hers and everyone is like, These chile rellenos are amazing, especially with the pepper jack cheese, but this rice? I don't know. And you'll be like, I know. I tried to make my gramma's recipe like I always do. And then they'll be like, Mona? And I'll be like, Mm hm. And then everyone will know what happened.
I really like this cheese . The spicy essence is just right . Price is always great ! I make homemade pizza with an English muffin toasted, with tomato paste as the sauce , pepperoni then slices of pepper jack cheese in the air fryer. ! Such a great snack!
It's good, I usually buy the gv products over any other generic brand. GV is excellent for price, flavor, and consistent texture. If I need a substitution, I fill in with the brand name offered. Higher price, but if I have to substitute I want a product that gv is closer to in texture, (very important to me!) and flavor. Some of the other products seem to be dry or the texture seems to have a waxxy consistentcy. GV is the best off-brand I've found.
I first purchased this because it was needed in a recipe I was preparing. The taste was a bit spicy but not overwhelming. Use this for several years. Now it often is so hot my family and I can enjoy it. I wish there was more consitency is 'heat' level. Maybe mark them mild, medium and hot.
The product is great but the packaging is very poor. You have to use scissors to open it. Once it's opened you need to repackage it because the Zip always separates from the package. This has been going on for a long time with the pepper jack and muenster sliced 8oz.
Expiration date for GV Sliced Pepper Jack Cheese is February 04, 2026. Today is October 18, 2025 and this product is moldy as CRAP! This is about the 3rd time this has happened and it is not due to my handling of this item. The Great Value brand and Wal-Mart is mishandling the products they are selling and it needs to Stop. I am elderly and order for delivery b/c I cannot always get out and I expect good customer care as I have given more than 40 years of loyalty to WM. Please do better Waltons!!
