I was pleasantly surprised that this Great Value Cheddar Shedded Extra Sharp Cheddar Cheese tastes and performs like real cheese--the kind of cheddar cheese of years/decades past. Additionally, like some other cheese, I didn't / don't have to chew it a lot in my mouth for it to break down enough for me to swallow it. Plus, I notice that hours after eating this brand of cheddar cheese that my body didn't /don't make and retain "extra water weight gain" that occurs when certain foods have "something" in the ingredients (like high amounts of sodium) that cause puffiness in my face, fingers and ankles, that's called Edema. I don't understand why this Great Value Extra Cheddar brand sodium amount per serving is about the same as other cheese brands, but this Great Value brand doesn't make my face, fingers, or ankles swell/become puffy hours after eating it.
I like this cheese compared to others specifically for it's value to taste ratio. If I desire delicious shredded cheese, I would get a hunk of nice cheddar and shred it. This is okay; it's sharper in taste than other pre-shredded cheeses, and I prefer the larger size of the shreds versus the mini-shredded types that melt away unless you put a ton on your recipe. *5* Value bumps up any shortcomings to me.
My family likes this better than other named brand shredded cheese. We sprinkle it on salads. It melts well on things like fries. We also like that it has a potato starch coating to keep it from clumping instead of cellulose powder as in other brands.
I've not had any problems with most of the Great Value cheeses that I buy. This particular item was a substitution for a 12-pack of sliced extra sharp cheddar that I wanted for sandwiches, so it isn't exactly what I needed, but I CAN use it on other foods! It's still delicious!!
I use this cheese often to add flavor to eggs or pasta. It is so easy to just sprinkle some from the bag. I also have a dog who is a fussy eater and I will sprinkle a little on her food when she is snubbing her food in the morning to get her interested in it! It has good flavor and the price is reasonable. I always have it on hand.
A regular staple in my kitchen, although they sent the wrong package. What I ordered was the identical type and form, but *only 1 carb/serving*. This has 2 carbs, and it DOES make a difference when you're on a low-carb diet and trying to cut carbs wherever you can. (I gave this bag to my husband and wound up having to buy my own when we had the chance to go to the store.) It's very hard to know one version from the other unless you're *looking* at the carb content, which is the only difference. Many of these shredded cheese packages are identical in contents *except* for listed carb content, which is also a royal pain in the stores.
Great value cheese is just as good as any name brand cheese out there. The taste is great i love the sharp cheddar particularly in salads it gives it a little kick. I think the texture can be iffy sometimes as well but i would recommend buying Great value products and save a little money for your pocket or to go toward some other item worth spending extra on!
I would have given this all five stars however the reason that I gave the one 4 star is because I laminated my sourdough bread with it. It came out a little on the greasy side. I now know that I need to mix a little bit of flour in with the grated cheese prior to adding to my sourdough. The cheese itself is a good quality and very tasty!
My major problem is with the zip closure. I thought it was because cheese particles were caught in the apparatus, but I find that there are problems even when there is no cheese in the Zip closure. Mostly, it doesn't work, so I roll it up %26 use a rubberband. The best zip closures I've found are on Jimmy Dean products.
I have all of my things always delivered from Walmart because I am disabled and in a wheelchair and my daughter will not drive so I have most of my needed things delivered. Yesterday when I got a text telling me I was here but it was not and we looked at the picture and realized it was not my door or rug. I called and was told they couldn't fill it again. So I would have to reorder it. I think I'll have it when I get out with someone instead of delivered. I've used delivery since it was available in Vegas Indiana and kept it up when my family moved me here in November of 2024.
