Great Value Frozen Wild Caught Smelt, 1 lb Bag, (Frozen)

I bought it for a treat for my Retired Service Dog, slowly transitioning him from dry feed kibble to raw food for his health. Veterinary said it's needed. He LOVES Smeltfish and it's hard to come by. I gave him two with his breakfast and he happily ate his breakfast.

We buy these for our cat. He loves them. He had a dandruff problem and we didn't know which fish oil to get him so we got him these as a temp solution. They ended up working out great so we kept on with them. Two smelt a day keeps the dandruff away. Funnily enough we can't find them anywhere but Walmart. Idk what everyone else buys them for that they keep them in stock but we appreciate it.

Amazing in a pan with hot oil, lightly floured, garlic and parsley — super tasty. I also baked them breaded and they were delicious! Excellent quality. Great product from Walmart! Highly recommended since they come already cleaned!

Ive never eaten this but my cats love it! NEVER cook it if you're giving it to cats. Its high in some amino acids that cats need. Cats can only have it if its raw. Do not feed to dogs cooked or raw.

Heads and guts removed, light water glaze, ready to cook, 3 to 4 inches long. Nice Canadian product that did not have to be shipped half way around the world to enjoy. The only bones you will detect are the backbones which cook down easily and are very easy to chew. I avoid unhealthy fried foods and the whole point of seafood is as a more healthy choice so I use 1/3rd bag of this smelt in a bowl with hot ramen noodles and vegetables. These small fish thaw faster than shrimps in water, then rinse them off under the tap for a cleaner taste. Because they are so small they cook fast with just the boiling hot water involved with ramen noodles - add them last thing shortly before serving or they will break down. Could also make a good watery rice soup with seaweed, the smelt make their own flavorful broth. Just add salt or MSG or a little Asian fish sauce. Smelt and other small fish are the most sustainable wild choice for seafood lovers who care about that. Not sure if the supply is sufficient but I'd like to see Walmart carry more fresh and frozen smelt more often so I don't have to wait for these being in stock only once a year. Small smelt are good but so are 6 inch long ones.

Better than I anticipated. It was the next best thing to getting it at your local fresh seafood market. I would definitely buy these again.

Frozen Smelts are getting smaller every year. They were not cleaned good. I always recheck anyway. Some were mangled into mush. My daughter who will eat them until she can eat no more said they tasted funny. Next year I'm buying fresh. I can't imagine there's much more difference in price. I bought 5 and threw almost all of them away. 50$ wasted.

I would recommend if you shopped for your own. Walmart shopper picked a bag that had the biggest smelt I have ever seen and not at all tasty. I had some the week before that were smaller and great. same brand.

They remove the heads and leave the guts in for the end user to remove. WALMART YOU SHOULD LET PEOPLE KNOW THIS.
