Truthfully, I usually buy brand names on most items and one of those is cheese. The Great Value cheese was tasty, perfectly shredded and it was difficult for me to believe this wasn't my usual brand. And the price!! From now on I am buying GV brand.
I purchase Great Value cheeses all the time. They taste great and work well in all my recipes. The different types of cheese work well whether you are sprinkling it on a chef salad, adding it to your omelet or creating a cheesy casserole or side dish.
This is exceptionally good shredded cheese for tacos, soups, chili and pasta. FOOD TIP: Add some to your favorite plant buttered popcorn by adding it to the bag (microwaveable only) after your popcorn has finished popping. Let sit in bag for 1 minute and then enjoy!
I mainly use this Great Value Mild Cheddar for salads, wraps, and casseroles, and it works really well. The flavor is mild and not overpowering, and it blends nicely with other ingredients. It doesn't clump too much and sprinkles easily, which is perfect for quick meals. It also melts well in casseroles. For the price, it's a great everyday cheese that I will keep buying.
I was brought stale bread and donuts. not fair I'm not there to see the date. this was last time in March. I would appreciate it when you fill my orders you don't give me old stuff or stuff that's going to expire the next day because usually it's already expired
Great Value shredded cheese saves me money and has great flavor. I use Great Value for just about all my menu needs as it provides cheeses I can afford on a budget. I get more for my money in being able to choose different varieties at the same time.
I normally purchase this cheese to top my chef salads. HOWEVER, I have also used it in my ham and cheese omelets, sprinkled on potato soup or chili. it's versatile. While I haven't, myself, tried it on nachos I don't see why it wouldn't work. Give it a whirl!
As Walmart defines things, this is cheese…..shredded cheese. Personally I do not believe it is actual cheese, but it is, without a doubt shredded. It has an odd white dusting on it which I find suspect, but I assume is what gives it that unique dried out cheese flavor.
Just a little FYI: pre-shredded cheese often contains cellulose—commonly referred to as “sawdust” or “wood pulp.” It's actually a safe, FDA-approved anti-caking agent derived from plant fibers, including wood pulp or cotton lint. It typically makes up about 2%–4% of the product and helps prevent the cheese from clumping by keeping the shreds separated, even though it's indigestible. (Source: Google) My mother-in-law has always said this is why she only buys block cheese. That said, shredded cheese is convenient and easy to use when making recipes. I've found that Great Value brand cheese has been pretty consistent over time. The price is always better than name brands, and it tastes the same to me. I gave it 4 stars because it does contain an anti-caking agent—but that's true of virtually all pre-shredded cheeses.
Lately, the cheese has been looking dried out or on its way to moldy not sure, it is white speckled. I smell it and taste it before using it and it seems fine. Maybe the good price is because it's been around for awhile. I ordered online, so maybe that is their way of getting rid of older inventory, because if I were choosing my own cheese, I would certainly examine the contents to get the best quality.
